Planning for the issue starts months before even the most aggressive “season-pushers” get started. Long before the shops Cstart decking their halls, before the cards and crackers go on display and before Johnny Mathis notices that it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, our editors, writers, photographers and designers are hard at work, crafting stories and spreads that celebrate the season. For us, the whole season almost seems to have passed when we send the issue off to the printer in November. By the time December 25th rolls around, we’re already thinking about Valentine’s Day. But, with a more optimistic eye, you could also say that gives us an extra three or four months of stretching the holiday season to the max. However I look at it, Christmas might just be the most wonderful time of the year to be in Hong Kong. Sunnier skies, cooler temperatures, the excitement of celebrations and promises for a happy new year all make the month a bit magical. We’ve brought you stories to help you get in the spirit, too. Thinking of putting a puppy under the tree for the kids? Before you commit, please read Rachel Kenney’s piece and make sure it’s the best decision for your family … and for the puppy. Do you have a new baby who will be celebrating his first Christmas this year? Brooke Chenoweth shares some ideas forcreating new traditions with your growing family. Will the grandparents be coming to visit this year? Check out Angela Baura’s piece for ways to keep everyone engaged. Are you on the hunt for the best toys for the little ones on your shopping list? Have a look at the plethora of options Ingrid Keneally has put together to ease your shopping stress. These stories and more await you inside. However you’ll be celebrating this month, I’m grateful that you’ve decided to include Playtimes, and I wish you a very happy holiday season.
