37mm spade mortar The 37mm spade mortar is a Soviet 37 mm light infantry mortar used in the Second World War. The mortar was produced from 1939 until the end of 1941. The weapon is a dual-purpose device in that it can also be used as a spade. When a leg is removed from the handle, the spade part of the weapon locks into position as a base plate for the mortar. The weapon was apparently intended to serve as a fire support weapon for every infantryman as it was designed to be operated by one man. There was no aiming Launcher. Caliber. 37.000 mm. They saw action during the Winter War in 1939-1940 and the initial phase of the Russo-German War in 1941, and general opinion of the performance of these mortars were low across both campaigns. Production ceased in 1941. A number of them were captured by German forces in the early phases of the Russo-German War The 120-PM-38 or M1938 was a 120 mm Soviet mortar that was used in large numbers by the Red Army during World War II.
