Skilled Iowa is a statewide initiative designed to prepare Iowa’s workforce for the demanding jobs of today and of the future. The program allows both the employed and unemployed to take an exam that identifies work-ready skill sets. The individuals then receive a ranking based on the exam’s success rate. Employers appreciate the exam results, as it improves the odds that new hires will be able to successfully meet the demands of the job. Des Moines County received the designation because a large number of local residents have already taken the exam and a number of area employers have already agreed to consider the exam rankings in the employment process.
