Vanessa Banton 011 713 9000 Rapport Journalist declined when the slot was offered at a later stage in October saying they had intended for the Hanlie Retief interview to be news-based when requested in August. 083 449 0218 UCT Radio The interview was requested at only one day notice and was to be on the VC’s first 100 days. The VC was Jesrael Jacobs not available. 082 646 5351 Cape Town TV The Vice-Chancellor was not available – the request was short notice. It also came in while there is a Khanya Lumkwana pending request from the same TV station. 071 173 6629 CapeTalk Was requested on 27 September for 28 September at 23h30. Professor Phakeng had just returned from Keenan Williams Singapore and had university commitments till 20h30. Rapport Questions were emailed on 3 August. However, these were on the passing of Professor Mayosi. We Dawie Boonzaaier indicated that we cannot comment on the matter as an inquiry was set to be initiated. 072 393 1668 SABC The focus of the interview was going to be on the circumstances around Professor Mayosi’s death. Dumile Mateza Professor Phakeng had decided she was no longer doing interviews on this matter. 071 114 1841 Southern Times, Questions were emailed on Friday, 27 July with the deadline being on the same day. Professor Phakeng was Colleta Dewa Namibia unable to response due to a tight schedule. 074 654 1311 Kaya FM The media house had two requests, so only one proceeded. Tsholo Maluleke 061 405 2651 Huffington Post The journalist did not call at the allocated time (18h00-18h30, 25 July). When she was phoned, it turned out Queenin Masuabi that she had her dates mixed up – claimed she thought the interview was scheduled for 26 July. 078 680 2391 eNCA Professor Phakeng was interviewed by the same station on a different programme. As a result, a longer- Sibongile Nhlapo term interviews proposal was discussed with the producer. 082 884 2761 Kaya FM The radio station subsequently requested a longer interview in studio, to be scheduled for when Professor Dinika Naidoo Phakeng is in Joburg. Their initial request was therefore disregarded. 084 700 4827 Power FM The radio station had a breaking news story which overlapped into the slot meant for the interview, which Tinyiko Manganyi was not rescheduled due to Professor Phakeng’s tight schedule. 076 799 1686 YOU The media house was no longer keen on the interview after it took over a month for a slot to be found (it Kim Abrahams could also be because an interview with Professor Phakeng was published in Destiny). 081 531 9189 Motsweding FM The journalist did not confirm the allocated slot so the interview was cancelled three hours before.
