Bare Root Planting Guide

1. Minimise the drying out when you transport your trees. If they aren’t already in sawdust, keep the roots covered with a wet blanket or sack until planting. 2. Prune any broken roots before planting. Clean cuts heal faster and will enable your tree to establish faster. 3. in an oversized hole that has proven to have good drainage. Keep the graft point (if applicable) above the soil level. You should be able to see on the trunk where the soil was when your tree was in the field. 4. Firmly pack soil around the roots, add some fertiliser and water it in immediately. Apply a mulch if desired, leaving the trunk clear. 5. Prune your trees to an outward facing bud, removing no more than one third of the branches. This step can also be carried out at the nursery if you would like it done for you.
