One who is poor has little or no access to income, employment, education, housing, health and other basic necessities of the life. In fact, it is poverty which forces one to suffer agonies and hardship including social discrimination. Slum areas have substandard houses, high density and congestion overcrowding, in sanitary conditions and absence of basic amenities like drinking water, electricity and fair price shops, etc., the slums environment is responsible for the mental outlook of the dwellers, especially its effects on growing children is most remarkable. Children daily witness scenes of violence, drunkenness and crime. The personal hygiene is poor and is reflected in their clothing and living condition. Due to unhealthy environmental conditions prevailing in the slums, diseases like TB, Cholera, Malaria and Jaundice are common Visakhapatnam slums. The present study collects primary data from the study area and tries to explore the Population characteristics, Housing, Health and Socio-economic characteristics. It was found that most of the facilities are below the average. People are living in a very pathetic situation. The basic needs of people are not fulfilled.     Ministry of Health and Family Welfare National Family Health Survey - 4 2015 -16 District Fact Sheet East Godavari Andhra Pradesh International Institute for Population Sciences (Deemed University) Mumbai 1 Introduction The National Family Health Survey 2015-16 (NFHS-4), the fourth in the NFHS series, provides information on population, health and nutrition for India and each State / Union territory. NFHS-4, for the first time, provides district-level estimates for many important indicators. The contents of previous rounds of NFHS are generally retained and additional components are added from one round to another. In this round, information on malaria prevention, migration in the context of HIV, abortion, violence during pregnancy etc. have been added. The scope of clinical, anthropometric, and biochemical testing (CAB) or Biomarker component has been expanded to include measurement of blood pressure and blood glucose levels. NFHS-4 sample has been designed to provide district and higher level estimates of various indicators covered in the survey. However, estimates of indicators of sexual behaviour, husband’s background and woman’s work, HIV/AIDS knowledge, attitudes and behaviour, and, domestic violence will be available at State and national level only. As in the earlier rounds, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India designated International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai as the nodal agency to conduct NFHS-4. The main objective of each successive round of the NFHS has been to provide essential data on health and family welfare and emerging issues in this area. NFHS-4 data will be useful in setting benchmarks and examining the progress in health sector the country has made over time.

The daily rainfall data from 1997 to 2018 (22 Groundwater , years) obtained from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES) was used for Surface water calculating annual availability of rainfall distribution over the command area. The Article Info total availability of the surface water of 11 years was is 2,229 MCM. Average annual rainfall of Guntur and Prakasam Districts under command area was noticed as 780 mm and 749 and overall command area was recorded as 765 mm.
