On behalf of the organizing committee of ISNCON 2011, I extend a warm & hearty welcome to you all, at the 42nd National Conference of Indian Society of Nephrology in Hyderabad city having a glorious past, a perfect present, and a promising future. The city of Pearls, as it is popularly known worldwide, boasts of a confluence of varied cultures, languages and life styles. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, referred to Hyderabad a center of “Ganga-Jamuna Tehejib”. It is strategically positioned as the meeting point of North and , a fact which has strengthened the cosmopolitan spirit. While Hyderabad is 400 yrs old, it's twin city is 200 yrs old.

The city of Mohammad Qutub , Hyderabad has a hoary past of more than four centuries, yet the historic city hasmarched towards a new era of progress and modernity. The city of is currently an Internationally acclaimed IT hub, having a substantial share in the software exports of the country. Of late, with a string of world-class health care centers, Hyderabad has carved for itself a significant place on the world medicare network.

Charminar is a beautiful and impressive square monument. Each side measures 20 m, and each of the corners has a tall, pointed minaret. These four gracefully carved minarets soar to a height of 48.7 m above the ground, commanding the landscape for miles around. Each minaret has four stories, marked by a delicately carved ring around the minaret. Unlike the Taj Mahal, Charminar's four fluted minarets of Charminar are built into the main structure. Inside the minarets 149 winding steps guide the visitor to the top floor, the highest point one can reach, which provides a panoramic view of the city.

The 13th century was built by the Kakatiya kings. The existing structure was later built by Qutub Shahi Kings into a massive fort with granite walls having eight gates and 87 bastions spread upto 7 kms, in circumference over a span of 62 years. Golconda Fort, popularly known in Telgu as "Golla Konda", which means "Shepherd's Hill", has an exotic story behind it. In 1143, on the rocky hill known as 'Mangalavaram', a shepherd boy came across an image and conveyed to the Kakatiya king, who was ruling at that time. The 10km long road from Golconda to outer Hyderabad was a fantastic market selling jewellery, diamonds, pearls and other gems, popular in all over the world.

The Salarjung Museum is the third largest museum in India housing the biggest one-man collections of antiques in the world. It is well known throughout India for its prized collections belonging to different civilizations dating back to the 1st century. Mir Yousuf Ali Salar Jung III (1889-1949), former Prime Minister of the seventh , spent a substantial amount of his income over thirty five years to make this priceless collection, his life's passion. The collections left behind in his ancestral palace, 'Diwan Contact us Deodi' were formerly exhibited there as a private museum which was inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru in Congress Secretariat 1951. Osmania General Hospital

Osmania General Hospital is one of the oldest hospitals in India located at Afzal Gunj, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. It was built during the time of the Last Nizam, Osman Ali Khan, and is named after him. It is run by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and is one of the biggest in the state. Gandhi Medical College was founded on 14th September 1954. 200 students per year are admitted to study for MBBS degrees. There are also 188 postgraduate students admitted per year, including those in clinical, non- clinical and super specialty subjects. Students can earn one of 37 degrees in various branches of medicine.
