The increased attention to children’s exposure has prompted child protection authorities to make changes to their policies, in an attempt to protect children. Despite the well-intentioned nature of these efforts, they have been criticized for producing negative consequences, such as, re-victimizing battered women, ignoring abusive men, and failing to protect children.

Dr. Lorne Taylor Minister, Innovation and Science Technology leaders to work with government to strengthen information and communications technology sector EDMONTON -- Individuals from some of Alberta's leading information and communications technology organizations are partnering with the government to help the province's technology sector grow to a $30 billion a year industry by 2010. Minister of Innovation and Science Lorne Taylor announced October 21 the appointment of a number of technology and business leaders to three committees that will oversee and advise the government on the implementation of strategies outlined in a provincial Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Strategy. Implementation of the strategy, presented to the government by the Alberta Science and Research Authority (ASRA) in October 1998, is one of the key responsibilities assigned to the department by Premier Ralph Klein when he created the department of Innovation and Science in May 1999. The ICT strategy, which was developed in consultation with business, industry, universities and government departments, is aimed at growing Alberta's ICT sector to a $30 billion a year industry by 2010. The ICT industries and businesses in the province currently generate about $8 billion a year. Another goal of the strategy is to increase the number of jobs in the sector by 35,000 by the province's centennial in 2005.

Since being established in February 2019, the Foothills Athletic Park Redevelopment Advisory Committee (FAPRAC) has gathered considerable information and determined that the Foothills Fieldhouse project specifically, is well-advanced and positioned to proceed further. Stakeholder collaboration will play a role in the successful redevelopment at Foothills Athletic Park. In addition to formal committee and working group meetings, several discussions have occurred among the following key stakeholders: University of Calgary, McMahon Stadium Society, Sport Calgary and The City. These discussions have been constructive but also raise questions related to involvement levels, timing, and funding. This report highlights key stakeholder interests and identifies that further discussions and commitments are necessary. A FAPRAC working group has also prepared a detailed Work Plan to guide the committee, and it serves to inform Council and Calgarians of proposed upcoming work. Start-up funding is required for this plan and a budget proposal is included in this report for Council consideration. The working group supports this start-up investment funding request because it may leverage additional partner funding, promote economic development, improve the McMahon Stadium experience, and ultimately create a centre of excellence for sport in Calgary.
