National Player of the Month Alina Mueller (Winterthur, Switzerland) led #8 BU 4, BC 0 ! the Huskies with two goals and two assists, including the game-winner over Merri- at UNH 3, Dartmouth 1 mack. ! Beanpot at BU #8 Boston University picked up a pair of wins last weekend, led by five points from Jesse Compher (Northbrook, Ill.) Compher was second in the nation last week Friday 2/7 with three goals and was first in the conference with five points in two Terrier wins, UNH 3 at BC 0 * including a pair of goals in a 4-0 win over Boston College in the Beanpot semifinal. #2 NU 5 at MC 1 * Maine 2 at PC 2 (OT) * Vermont claimed the final spot in the 2020 Hockey East Tournament with a 6-2 win over UConn on Sunday. Theresa Schafzahl (Weiz, Austria) led the nation in tallies * Hockey East last weekend as she found the back of the net four times and Maude Poulin-La- belle (Sherbrooke, Qué.) set a new program record with 28 points on the season (11g, 17a.) Catherine Crawley (Washingtonville, N.Y.) tallied a goal and two as- Saturday 2/8 sists over the weekend for the Huskies, including a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win UNH 2 at MC 2 (OT) * over Vermont Saturday afternoon. Merrimack 23 1 17 5 7 4-21-5 1.57 (9) 3.39 (9) HOCKEY EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK JESSE COMPHER BOSTON UNIVERSITY Jesse Compher (Northbrook, Ill.) was second in the nation with three goals and was first in the conference with five points in two Terrier wins. She shined brightest in the Beanpot semifinals against Boston College, scoring two goals in a span of 2:25 early in the third period to give BU a 3-0 lead en route to a 4-0 triumph. Compher then tallied the Terriers’ first goal and assisted on two others in a 5-2 win at Holy Cross on Satur- day. Compher also led the nation in faceoff percentage at .900, going 27-3 at the faceoff circle. PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK TAMARA THIÉRUS NEW HAMPSHIRE Tamara Thiérus (Saint-Je- rome, Que.) returned to Boston College’s Conte Forum, the arena where she notched her first career goal, and tallied two more in a 3-0 victory over the Eagles. Her first goal counted as the game winner and her second goal added insurance in the third. She added an assist for a three-point game against BC and had four points on the week with an assist on the game-tying goal in a 2-2 tie with Merrimack the next day. HOCKEY EAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK MAUDE POULIN-LABELLE VERMONT Maude Poulin-Labelle (Sherbrooke, Qué.) pushed her personal point streak to five games (6a) with a trio of assists over the week- end. In the process, the sophomore defender set a new program record with 28 points on the season (11g, 17a). Poulin-Labelle set the record in Sunday’s 6-4 win that also clinched the final Hockey East playoff spot for the Cat- amounts. She leads her team with 28 points. HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS Nadia Mattivi, BU (Fr., D; Baselga di Pine, Trento, Italy) Scored in a 5-2 win at Holy Cross on Saturday, giving them a 2-1 lead just 13 seconds after BU tied the game. Mattivi finished the week as a plus-2 with four blocked shots. Corinne Schroeder, BU (Jr., G; Elm Creek, Man.) In her lone start of the week, posted a 33-save shutout against Boston College to lead BU to a 4-0 win in the Beanpot semifinals over Boston College. She has not allowed a 5-on-5 goal to a Beanpot school since Nov. 19 against Harvard. Catherine Crawley, UConn (Sr., F; Washingtonville, N.Y.) Tallied a goal and two assists over the weekend. Crawley as- sisted on Snodgrass’ opening goal, then scored one of her own in the Huskies 4-2 win over Vermont Saturday afternoon. Crawley added her second assist in Sunday’s series finale. Briana Colangelo, UConn (Sr., F; Whitby, Ont.) Notched three points on two goals and one assist. Colangelo netted a goal to break a 1-1 tie then assisted on the ensuing goal in UConn’s win over Vermont Saturday afternoon. Colangelo notched her second goal of the weekend Sunday afternoon. Meghara McManus, UNH (Sr., F; Milton, Mass.) Led all non-rookies in scoring on her team with three points last week, averaging a point per game on two goals and one assist. One goal proved to be the game-winning tally against Dartmouth on Tuesday. Ava Boutilier, UNH (So., G; Charlottetown, P.E.I.) In her first two starts since January 10, Boutilier went 1-0-1, stopping 63 of 65 shots faced, posting a .969 save% and 0.96 GAA. Had a 32-save shutout against BC on Friday and made 31 saves against Merrimack on Saturday, allowing two goals, but none on even-strength play in a 2-2 draw. Alina Mueller, NU (So., F; Winterthur, Switzerland) Led the Huskies to a 2-0-0 week with two goals and two assists. Mueller potted the game-winner in a 5-1 win over Merrimack on Friday and assisted the game-winner that sent the Huskies past #10 Harvard in the Beanpot semifinals, 3-1, on Tuesday. Theresa Schafzahl, UVM (So., F; Weiz, Austria) Led the nation in tallies last weekend as she found the back of the net four times in a 1-1-0 week for Vermont. She scored both goals for the Cats in a 4-2 setback on Friday before scoring twice more, including the game-winning goal in a 6-2 victory on Sunday. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics Success Breeds Success - Respecting the Past - Representing the Future Director's Greeting As we begin our 15th academic year, I reflect back on the emergence of this program by Respecting the Past, while Representing the Future through establishing an educational platform that prepares our students for the new and ever-emerging world of sports. As we begin a new decade, what changes and evolving enterprises will redefine sports? How will our daily consumption of sports change? How will the digital age impact business, marketing and branding strategies? How will analytics drive decision-making and managerial processes, and how will our program influence that? What new technologies will emerge to alter and enhance product lines or how we engage with particular sports? Legalized sports wagering, fan engagement, e-sports participation and monetization, pay equity and enhanced media coverage for female sports, and athlete activism that will amplify social change will all likely characterize the decade of the 2020s. We must thoroughly prepare our students to meet these — and a host of other challenges — with knowledge, critical thinking, thoughtful conviction and visionary foresight. When I review the initial five years of Sport Management, we experienced unparalleled growth, change and development by building a strong foundation of hiring excellent faculty, expanding our curriculum, creating a multitude of experiential learning opportunities and establishing a world-class advisory council. Despite the economic downturn of the Great Recession, we persevered and were able to recruit extraordinary students and establish our academic identity to be among the best programs in the country.
