The historic Hotel Penn is located across the street from Madison Square Garden at 401 Seventh Avenue. Phil Ortiz, one of the original artists behind the Simpsons, will join Yeh in creating this work of art, which will be donated to the city’s schools and libraries after the event. Por eso queríamos que fuera la portada de este especial de CLIJ que dedicamos a la nove- la gráfica, un mundo tan extenso y maravilloso como los escenarios de la serie que elevó el género del western a otro nivel. Norma editorial acaba de finalizar la publicación de la obra completa de Blueberry en nueve tomos que, aparte de mejorar la impresión y el color, incluyen completos extras: textos sobre la obra, ilustraciones inéditas y bocetos y fotografías que muestran el proceso creativo de Charlier y Giraud. Una historia que es la de sus autores, sujetos a un trabajo titánico de guion e ilustración que se niega a morir pese a que ellos ya no están con nosotros.     3 Comic books, science (fiction) and public relations Ian Horton Introduction Comic books have a long but mostly unwritten history in the field of public relations yet they have had a significant impact on society throughout the twentieth and into the twenty-first century. Notable British examples from the 1980s included: AARGH! (Artists’s Against Rampant Government Homophobia) created to protest against Clause 28 of a government bill banning the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality, Strip Aids designed to raise awareness of Aids and Raymond Biggs’ anti-nuclear weapon graphic novel When the Wind Blows (Sabin, 1993:102–4). In the early 1980s the Department of Health created an anti-smoking campaign that pitted DC Comics Superman against the supervillian Nic O’Teen and more recently comic books have been extensively used in health campaigns across the world, a development that has received some critical attention through the emergence of the Graphic Medicine network and associated conferences for both academics and practitioners.1 Figure 3.1 Advertisement Superman Vs Nick O’Teen, Health Education Council, Department of Health, United Kingdom, 1980. © Crown copyright. Public relations comic books are just one sub-set of a wider field of practice that comic book artist and theorist Will Eisner has categorised as informational comic books and this study explores how public relations comic books differ from those that have a more commercial intent which might be considered as promotional or even belonging to the world of advertising. The hypothesis of this research is that, as a new form of literature, graphic novels will display inconsistent cataloging. Methodology consisted of searching the titles generated from Bowling Green State University's subject heading, Graphic Novels, against OCLC records. There are 191 titles, with 299 OCLC records and 3,416 holdings. All records for the same title were downloaded from OCLC, encoded, and entered into SPSS. Statistical analysis such as tabulating and frequency distribution are utilized in analyzing the cataloging records. Definitions, examples, AACR2 cataloging rules, subject headings, added entries, and classification numbers clarify the format as well as the cataloging of graphic novels. One conclusion is that there are consistencies as well as inconsistencies in the cataloging record. Another is that graphic novels are not automatically cGnsidered juvenile works. Several recommendations based on the study findings are offered: (1) "chiefly ill." should be used in the physical field; (2) a subject heading "Graphic Novels" should be assigned in order to bring out this form of literature;(3) libraries may want to class graphic novels together locally; and (4) more individuals and roles should be listed in the statement of responsibility or notes.
