Meltham Group Practice Patient Reference Group Minutes of the meeting held on Tuesday 9th April 2019 1. Attendees and apologies Elizabeth Alberti, Michael Ingleby, Helen Macgregor (chair), Judith Roberts, Pamela Shelton (minute taker), Greg Smith.There were no apologies. It was noted that according to our Terms of Reference the group is not quorate unless the GP who has taken on responsibility for patient participation attends, along with three patient members and a member of the admin team. Dr Ashraf is the designated doctor; regret was expressed about his lack of regular attendance as we benefit from his extensive knowledge, especially as he is currently a member of the Greater Huddersfield CCG. As it is some time since the group last met, those present introduced themselves and indicated why they had opted to join. There was some discussion about the purpose of the group. Action: Pamela will circulate the original Terms of Reference that were agreed when the Group was first established as a face-to-face group, as opposed to a virtual group that communicated electronically. The first meeting of the Group was on 7th October 2014. 2. Matters arising from the last meeting on 17th April 2018 There was a proposal to use Facebook as a means of disseminating information and generating comments re the Practice. However, GPs were not enthusiastic, in part because such an arrangement would require oversight and staff are already hard pressed; also, feedback from other local Practices indicated that it can generate a lot of negative comments. 3. HUDDERSFIELD CHRONICLE 1881 TO 1900 1 January 28 1881 BASE COIN IN THE BLACK COUNTRY At the Stafford Assizes yesterday morning, Mr Commissioner Wills QC had before him for sentence a number of prisoners charged with passing base coin in the neighbourhoods of Wolverhampton. Walsall and West Bromwich, who had been convicted on the previous day. In all the cases, the “smashers”, who are believed to have got the spurious coin from Birmingham, went to small shopkeepers and, purchasing a trifling item, tendered a counterfeit coin in payment, frequently getting change without suspicion. After remarking on the enormity of the offence, the learned commissioner sentenced George Brown, locksmith, to five years penal servitude; Harry Hanson, horse dealer, to 12 months; Thomas Goodfrey, labourer, to six months; George Fuel, slater, to 12 months; John Farley, boatman, six months; and Ann Davies, a bad character, to six months. 2 February 24 1881 Borough Police Court THROWING A BOY INTO THE CANAL George Goodier, boatman, Wakefield, was charged with doing grievous bodily harm to Tom Fletcher, a lad of 16 years of age, on the 23 rd October last. The allegation of Fletcher was that on the day in question, between half past four and five in the afternoon, he, his mother, and three boys were coming to Huddersfield from Colne-bridge, along the canal bank. When they got near the lockhouse, they passed prisoner, who was in charge of a boat. Without anything being said, prisoner, who was the worse for liquor, exclaimed, “I'll drown you young -----”, and caught hold of Fletcher by the neck and breeches and dropped him into the canal, letting go of his clothes.

Please contact us to book a place A nonconformist is a member of a religious organisation that does not ‘conform’ to the Church of England. YORKSHIRE EVENING POST 1890 to 1900 1 3 December 1890 An inquest was held yesterday on the body of Sarah Jackson, 37, the wife of a canal boatman. Deceased had only arrived in Salford with her husband, when she went ashore with him. On returning to the flat some little time before him, the deceased, it is believed, missed her footing in the darkness and fell into the canal at Oldfield Road. Search was made for the body, which was found near the shore side. A verdict of “Found drowned” was returned. 2 26 December 1890 CHRISTMASTIDE IN LEEDS Of all the holidays in the year, Christmastide is perhaps looked forward to with the most interest, inasmuch as to many people it means their annual visit to the best and oldest friends they have got, and to a reuniting of old ties. Then, of all times in the year, is it that the family circle is met together, old differences are healed, and the occasion is made one of festivity. This Christmas has been no exception to the rule, in the latter respect, at any rate ; but, unfortunately, the weather has not been so auspicious as it might have been. In the early part of the week, it appeared probable that we should have a real old fashioned Christmas, with real frost and snow. A thaw, however, set in on Wednesday, and on Christmas Eve, the streets of the town were in A VERY DISAGREEABLE CONDITION rendering “sight seeing” and “shopping” less popular than they would have been. On the same night, and early on Christmas morning too, it is said that the principal streets from time to time were the scene of rowdyism of the most disgraceful kind.
