PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Season 2018/19 was again another year of change and transition as Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW continue to strive for the formula to ensure cricket remains a leading sport in our community.
Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to give special thanks to the tireless efforts of our Executive volunteers who dedicate countless hours to ensure we have a local cricket competition in Penrith that is largely a great experience for our participants. These people include Craig Batty our Vice President and Competition Secretary, Rebecca Nicholls our Secretary, John Jennings the Treasurer and Rick Lennox our Representative Program Coordinator. For most your efforts go unnoticed and unrecognised but for me it is your work that means we have a local cricket and representative program for all our boys and girls. On behalfofourcricketing community Ithank yousincerely.
On the field this season has provided some great success stories again. Although declining we still had 58 teams take the field from nine different clubs across U10s to U16s. Seven out of our nine clubs participated in finals cricket, with six clubs winning at least one premiership title. There were 456 games of junior cricket. 93,052 runs scored, 5,721 wicket taken, 12 centuries and21five wickethauls.
On the Representative front we had some great success once again this season but none more significant than the U16s Watson Shield team coached by Peter Tracey and Brendan Vella bringing home the trophy, the first one in 9 years. Congratulations to all involved. We also had some other notable performance from the U15s DCA making the Semi Finals which is a fantastic achievement and our U10s PC team finishing on top of the table in their developmentcompetition.
For the DCA boys and girls competitions we won 53% of our games up from 29% the prior
season which is almost double the wins, an outstanding outcome, while the PC’s did
extremely wellwinning 40% oftheirgames whichwas exactly inline with lastseason. Off the field there was also a significant amount of progression and change. In June 2018 prior to season commencement at the AGM a new Constitution was endorsed by all clubs, a largely new and first time Executive was elected by you the members and our clubs, which meant we could continue to pave the way for the future of Penrith Junior cricket at that we have done more so than ever in a time of change by Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW. With this I ask that you remain positive and open to change as we continue to look to ensure
CricketremainsoneofAustralia’sno.1sports.
Over the past 12 months we have seen some notable advancements and achievements for
our Association. Some of these include: further implementation of Cricket Australia’s new
formats, centralised junior blasters programs, continued promotion of our Girls only Thunder League, more regular and collaborative communication with Cricket NSW and NSWDCA leading to more aligned strategies and objectives with our governing bodies for both localand representative cricket, the formation of the Penrith Cricket Council involving Cricket NSW/PJCA/NDCA/Penrith Grade Club. Presentations with the Cricket NSW Talent Identification and Academy Representatives to ensure our selection criteria align with their pathway programs, this ultimately lead to the PJCA being invited to attend NSW Academy trials as observers thus provider insights never available before, which hopefully will only create greater opportunities for our players within the talent identification processes into the future. It was also very pleasing to see that our new selection criteria implemented before last rep trials already very muchaligns to thatofthese elite pathwayprograms.

We have continued to advance our relationship with the Penrith Grade Club via greater access to their resources which were highlighted this year by more than ever before, with grade players offering their volunteer time as coaches and assistant coaches in our program. If you have seen the appointments for this season’s teams you will see we have again made some exciting announcements here with four of our premiership winning 1st grade team committing to the PJCA rep system.
Discussions continue on a regular basis with Penrith Council in order to foster and advocate future cricket needs in the region with a focus on better facilities, ground maintenance and hopefully access to turf wickets for our local competition. This season has seen upgrade nets at JamisonPark withnewnets going up aswe speakatChed TownsandKnapsack.
We have opened the door with face to face meetings with our state and federal members of parliament to assist with achieving positive outcomes in achieving some key objectives with Counciland CricketNSWthis includesthe MinisterforSport.
Overall, I think it is fair to say the picture for Penrith Junior Cricket is positive and exciting and I trust we canallbandtogetherto build forthe years ahead.

We started the season with 10 players inour team. A mixture of 6 kids returning from last year with 4 new players to our team, most of them playing their first seasonof weekend cricket. We also had a mixture ofagesrangingfrom 9to 11.
Having 10 players and only being able to bat and bowl 8 each week created some challenges but we settled on a system where our 2 subs would keep wicket each week. The kids were fantastic despite occasionally not getting to batand bowl there were never any complaints and everyone showed great team spirit and gave their all no matter which part they had to play that week.
We started the season with some up and down performances. When we were good we were great, but we let ourselves down ina few games early in the season with some sloppy fielding and somecrazy running betweenthe wickets.Thissawus lose3ofourfirst 6 games.
By the mid-point of the season the team had begun to show some real improvement with their skills. In particular our bowling and fielding improvement had seen us assert ourselves as the best fielding team in the competition. The team had also started to put a higher price on their wickets and had drastically improved ourrunning betweenthe wickets.
From round 7 on us only dropped 1game as the team really found some form and confidence going into the semis.
We finished the regular season in 2nd place having taken 20 wickets more than any other team, conceded 200 runs less than any other team and lost 11 wickets less than any other team.

We saved probably our 2 best performances of the year for the semi and grand final. Everyone contributed in these 2 games. We defeated Glenbrook/Blaxland in the semi 1/161 to
6/129 with easily ourbest batting performance of the season. We didn’t panic in the field when
the gamestarted to getcloseandralliedwithsomelate wickets to putit beyond doubt. We played Springwood in the grand final and after bowling first and taking 15 wickets we never really let them into the game, winning 6/168 to 15/105. A well-deserved premiership for a fantastic group ofkids.
I would like to thank all the parents for their help throughout the year whether it be scoring, helping outattraining and beingsounderstandingofthe 10 playersituation.

The sentence above really does summarise our season. The kids were the dominant team all season, finishing 2 wins clear on top of the table at the end of 16 rounds, only having lost 3 games. We scored the most runs, lost the least amount of wickets, took the most wickets and
gave away the least amount of runs of any team in the competition. When ourgame was “on”
we were able to control most games through our positive cricket. We also proved that when our game was not “on”, the players had the resilience and ability to still win. Winning the
competition was a just reward for the player’s efforts allseason. Playing up in the Stage 2U12
Div 2 format really enabled our players to grow as cricketers. Also, excitedly, our whole side is eligible to play U/12s again next season, with four players U/10 and seven players U/11s this season. Well done Hayden McElroy, Dane Micsko, Xander Murphy, Jack Newman, Benjamin Reeves, Ashton Russell, Fletcher Russell, Halle Savage, Taj Savage, Marcus Skinner, Joshua Wrightand SamuelWrightonanamazing season.
Grand Finalv St Clair Hawks The Grand Final against St Clair was going to be a challenge. They are a talented side who are well coached. Ben won the toss and our kids were keen to bowl first. Not a bad idea, especiallygiventhe nervesfrom the Semithe weekbefore.
Dane and Ashton opened the bowling, followed by Ben and Jack. Within a few overs we had St Clair in trouble at 4/11. Everyone continued to bowl well and keep the pressure on the opposition. Credit to them, they batted well to reach 7/75 when time closed the innings after 28 overs.
Our turn to bat. After an extra training session on Friday evening, I was confident we were ready for the chase. Ashton and Sam batted beautiful against a quality bowling attack to both

retire after 35balls, Sam 17runs and Ashton 12 runs. Ben, 11runs, continued the good start with his dismissal being our first wicket with the score on 57. Two more wickets gave the opposition a shimmer of hope, however the Savages, Halle and Taj, knocked off the required 7 runs to complete the chase3wickets downwithfourovers remaining.
Seeing how excited the kids were after this game, celebrating with the Premiership trophy in front of their biggest crowd of family and friends for the season was wonderful to see. Personally I felt so proud of each of them. They had played to their ability in the Grand Final whichis allyoucanask.
Also congratulations on a great season to St Clair Hawks. Our games are always close and playedinthe right spiritwhichI and ourplayers appreciate.
Well Done Emu U/12Division 2 Premiers. Enjoy the celebrations that come with your success this season.Youwillneverforgetit.

What an outstanding season it was for the boys this year. We could not be more proud of the way the boys have performed throughout the year & the way they have bonded together, formed friendships& playedthe gamein sucha good spirit.
The boys started the season well with a few rusty performances then went thru a bit of an up and down period where we managed to loss only the 2 games for the season. By the time the Xmas break came around the boys had done enough to get them into first place. This is where the boys would finish the regular rounds & take out the minor premiership. The team had built nicely after the break going from conceding an averaging of 50 extras a game, and still winning, to averaging 18 extras & getting thru to the grand final. Then to play & win the way the boys didongrand finalday& take outthe big prize was justoutstanding.
