Jackson and Mary Jackson Craighill, from1983 to 1984 and converted to a gift in 1984. Additional material was given by the Jackson family from 1985 to 1998. Other material was added via transfer from the Library's Prints and Photographs Division in 1996. Processing History: The papers of Robert Jackson were arranged in 1985. A description of the papers appeared in Library of Congress Acquisitions: Manuscript Division, 1984, pp. 16-18. Subsequent material received from 1985 to 1997 was processed as Addition I in 1998. Addition II, consisting of items received in 1998, was processed in 2001. In 2005 a portion of the collection, containers 95 through 118, was microfilmed. The finding aid was revised to reflect this change. Transfers: Items have been transferred from the Manuscript Division to other custodial divisions of the Library. Maps have been transferred to the Geography and Map Division. Motion pictures and sound recordings have been transferred to the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division. A book, Extermination of Polish Jews; Album of Pictures, by the Central Jewish Historical Committee, has been transferred to the Library's general collection. All transfers are identified as part of the Robert Houghwout Jackson papers. C. Scope and Content Note The papers of Robert Houghwout Jackson (1892-1954) span the years 1816-1983, with most of the material concentrated in the period 1934-1954. The collection consists of twelve series: Family Papers, General Correspondence, Subject File, Speeches and Writings File, Legal File, Biographical File, Financial Papers, Miscellany, Photographs, Additions, Oversize, and Classified. Although the papers present a comprehensive record of Robert Jackson's life dating from his school days, the Legal File series dominates the collection. The earliest of the papers relates to the private law practice which he established in 1913 in Jamestown, New York, and represents a period of twenty-one years of legal service in western New York. The bulk of the law practice material pertains to cases in which Jackson was involved as counsel to the Jamestown Telephone Company, the Jamestown Westfield and Northwestern Railroad Company, Jamestown Worsted Mills, and the Niagara, Lockport and Ontario Power Company. The papers also contain a few smaller files on other cases, including Lyle
