ALERT #24 ___________________ October 5, 2007 EMERGENCY BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES PROGRAMS AND HOSPITAL EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS FOR MBHP MEMBERS AND UNINSURED CONSUMERS The following information should be communicated immediately to other appropriate staff in your organization. The Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership (MBHP) is the company that manages behavioral health (mental health and substance abuse) services for MassHealth’s Primary Care Clinician (PCC) Plan Members*. Additionally, MBHP is contracted with the Department of Mental Health to manage most of the Emergency Services Programs (ESPs) across the Commonwealth. In that role, MBHP is issuing this Alert to hospital Emergency Departments (EDs), MBHP network providers, and other interested stakeholders in order to provide clarification and guidance relative to the management of behavioral health emergencies in the ED setting. More specifically, this Alert delineates the roles and responsibilities of the Emergency Services Programs (ESPs) and describes an individual’s progression through this system, with a goal of expediting his or her movement through the hospital ED and into acute behavioral health services, as medically necessary. ESPs function as a “safety net” for all citizens of the Commonwealth regardless of age, payer, or ability to pay. It is important to note that the policies and procedures in this Alert applies to those populations for whom the ESPs are contracted with MBHP to serve, which includes MBHP members, MassHealth (non-MCO enrolled) Members, uninsured consumers, and DMH consumers. However, it is also important to note that MassHealth also requires the four Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) contracted with MassHealth to utilize the ESP system for emergency behavioral health services for MassHealth MCO enrolled Members. -
Cultural Resources Inventory
Town of Saugus Historical Commission Town Hall 298 Central Street Saugus, MA 01906 CULTURAL RESOURCES INVENTORY Updated: May 2012 The Town of Saugus contains hundreds of sites and structures having architectural, archeological, or historical significance. At the present time, five properties are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, two of which have been designated as National Historic Landmarks (NHL) by the Secretary of the Interior. National Register Properties: Boardman House (NHL, 10/15/1966) Breakheart Reservation Parkways (8/11/2003) Lynn Fells Parkway (5/9/2003) Saugus Iron Works (NHL, 10/15/1966) Saugus Town Hall (6/20/1985) The Commission completed an Inventory of Cultural and Historical Resources in 1986. This inventory was largely confined to resources that were at least 50 years old, and did not include many additional resources reflecting the growth of the Town since World War II. The results of this inventory have been entered into the Massachusetts Historical Commission’s MACRIS database. With a few exceptions, the inventory forms, along with inventory records created by other federal and state agencies, are available for downloading from the MACRIS site (http://mhc-macris.net/). The following listing is in two parts. The first lists properties included in the MACRIS database, while the second shows those properties which the Commission has identified for potential inclusion in the inventory. This includes both older properties not included in the previous inventory and those which have achieved the 50 year age criteria since the initial survey was done. It should be noted that the list of potential additions will expand as individual properties within areas are inventoried or miscellaneous residential properties are identified as being significant either as architecture or association. -

Birds of Mount Greylock Mount Greylock State Reservation INFORMATION GUIDE & SIGHTING LIST Birds of Mount Greylock is a two-part document. Part 1 is a basic overview of the variety of bird species found in and around Mount Greylock, where you might encounter them in the Reservation. Part 2 is a birding checklist for your records. Part 1 Managed by the Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR), Mount Greylock State Reservation covers over 12,500 acres of upland habitat. The summit at 3,491 feet above sea level is the highest point in Massachusetts and supports the only sub-alpine ecosystem in the state; one of the southernmost extensions of the boreal or spruce-fir forest, normally associated with Canada. Why go birding? If you want a challenge, camaraderie, fun, passion, beauty, insight, travel, and discovery, go birding. All this aside, humans have certainly altered face of the landscape, sometimes negatively impacting bird habitats. Bird populations, over time, have responded by shifting to more suitable habitats or disappearing altogether from certain areas. Still other species have been either hunted to extinction, their distinctive habitats completely destroyed, affected by pesticides or pollution, or even displaced by competing bird species. There is a widely held belief within the bird watching community is that an interest in birds is often the first step toward building a sound conservation ethic. Birds are sensitive indicators of the health of the environment. It is likely that a popular widespread commitment to their well- being will lead to a greater concern for the quality of the environment on which humans and birds are mutually dependent. -
