Biogeographic distributional patterns of gastropods are proposed based on the species’ geo- graphic and bathymetric distribution. Samples were collected along the Brazilian continental margin between 18° S and 23° S, at 37 stations with depths from 20 m to 1,330 m. The analysis of the biogeographic distribu- tion patterns confirmed the existence of a transitional zone from tropical to subtropical waters in the area of both the continental shelf and slope, suggesting a relationship with water mass circulation. We observed a high species turnover rate between the shelf and slope. The analysis of gastropod species distribution revealed a similar pattern on the shelf and slope and a large difference between shallow and deep-water faunas. Los muestreos fueron realizados en el margen continental brasileño entre 18°S y 23°S, en 37 estaciones de 20 m a 1.330 m de profundidad. El análisis de los patrones de distribución biogeográfica confirmó la existencia de una zona de transición de aguas tropicales a aguas subtro- picales, que se encuentra en la zona de la plataforma continental y también en la zona del talud continental, es- to puede sugerir una relación con la circulación de las masas de agua. -

Recebido: 30/06/2005 Aceito: 02/09/2005 RESUMO Obsevações na reprodução de Pisania pusio (Linnaeus, 1758) (Mollusca: Gastropoda : Bucinidae) em laboratório. O desenvolvimento larval e a desova de Pisania pusio foram descritas. As cápsulas de ovos eram de formato circular e translúcidas e mediram 2.9 to 3.7 mm (n = 52) em diâmetro, estas eram fixadas ao substrato por um pedúnculo. O poro de saída das larvas fica localizado no lado superior da cápsula e media 2.2 mm (n = 52) em diâmetro. No sétimo dia, foi observado o estágio de larva veliger intracapsular. O estágio intracapsular de pediveliger foi observado no décimo quarto dia, quando os animais já possuíam uma coloração escura na parte superior do pé e um “velum” reduzido. A eclosão ocorreu no quadragésimo dia em estágio final de pediveliger. Palavras-chave: Gastropoda, Bucinidae, reprodução. ABSTRACT Spawn and larval development stages of Pisania pusio from Northeast Brazil are described. The egg capsules were translucent with a circular shape which measured 2.9 to 3.7 mm (n = 52) in diameter and it had a stalk to fix the capsule to the substrate. The exit plug is located on the upper side of the capsule and measured 2.2 mm (n = 52) in diameter. -

Malacologico 1 25 (1989) 1 (5-8) 1 137-148 1 Milano 31-10-1989 Philippe Bouchet* & Marco Taviani*" ATLANTIC DEEP SEA GASTROPODS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN: NEW FINDINGS*** Riassunto I campionamenti effettuati in Mediterraneo negli ultimi anni da parte di navi oceanografi- che francesi e italiane hanno sensibilmente contribuito ad arricchire la conoscenza della malaco- fauna profonda di questo mare. In questo articolo riportiamo il ritrovamento nel Mediterraneo occidentale di otto specie di Gastropoda Prosobranchia in passato ritenute esclusive dell'oceano Atlantico, e cioè: Claviscala richardi (DAUTZENBERG& DE BOURY,1897), Torellia vestita JEFFREYS,1867, Kryptos koehleri (LOCARD,1896), Pleurotomella packardi VERRILL,1872, Corinnaeturris leucomata (DALL,1881), Xanthodaphne dalmasi (DAUTZENBERG& FISCHER, 1897), Lusitanops cingulata BOUCHET& WA- RÉN, 1980, e Lusitanops hyaloides (DAUTZENBERG,1925). Viene data inoltre documentazione dettagliata della presenza in Mediterraneo dell'Epitoniidae Opaliopsis atlantis (CLENCH& TUR- NER, 1952), già noto per depositi pleistocenici deUa Calabria, e di Scaphander punctostriatus (MIGHELS,1841). La maggioranza delle specie discusse è stata rinvenuta allo stato di conchiglie subfossili di individui adulti e si suppone la loro provenienza da tanatocenosi premoderne in parte almeno dell'ultirno glaciale. Del Buccinidae K. koehleri invece è stato rinvenuto nel Mare di Alboran un solo esemplare giovanile ma vivente. Come dimostrato daiia sua distribuzione attuale nel Golfo Ibero-Marocchino questa specie a sviluppo lecitotrofico è euribata e pertanto la sua penetrazione in Mediterraneo può awenire attraverso lo Stretto di Gibilterra. Le altre specie sono invece da considerarsi batiali in senso stretto ma presentano tutte sviluppo larvale planctotrofico che può averne favorito l'immigrazione attraverso lo Stretto allo stadio larvale con successiva metamorfosi nel Mediterraneo.
