At around 7:45 pm Monday evening, Murrieta Fire & Rescue and the Murrieta Police Department responded to reports

of a structure fire at an apartment complex in the 25000 block of Vista Murrieta Road, near Los Alamos Road. Units arrived at the scene and were advised of a small fire within the kitchen of a second floor apartment. Police officers assisted with the safe evacuation of all occupants from the building, while firefighters made access to the apartment and confirmed that the fire had been extinguished by the building's fi re sprinkler system. Once the sprinkler had been successfully shut down, the incident shifted to a water salvage operation, in which firefighters used large floor squeegees to remove as much water as possible from the apartment, as well as the downstairs apartment directly below, which was also flooded during the incident. The residents of both apartments were displaced as a result of the

water damage, but property management staff were able to temporarily relocate them to additional units within the comple x. Most people are not aware, but a properly vented fire within a residential dwelling will double in size every 60 seconds. Even the most efficient fire departments in the world require at least a few minutes to dispatch, respond, arrive at the scene, and establish a fire attack. Thanks to the fire sprinkler system's activation and proper functionality, this fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread throughout the building, and no one was injured in the incident.

A group of 17 teen artists from Bayart Academy in Sonoma County created this painting and then raised funds enough to send one of these prints to all 506 Fire stations that came to help with the Kincaid Fire. We just received our print and it is hanging in the hallway of our Admin Office.

Great work! Bayart Academy!
