Semarang, September 2015 Provita Fitriana v ABSTRACT Fitriana, Provita. 2015. The Interpersonal Meanings of Conversations between A Tour Guide and Foreign Tourists in Prambanan Temple. A Final Project. English Department, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Semarang State University. Advisor: Intan Permata Hapsari, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords: Attitudes, interpersonal meanings, modality, mood. The topic of the study is the interpersonal meanings of the conversations between a tour guide and foreign tourists in Prambanan Temple. This study aims to reveal speakers‟ ways to negotiate informations, suggestions, offers and things. Therefore, mood, modality, and attitude are analyzed in this study. Thisaims to describe the realizations of Moods in the conversations between a tour guide and foreign tourists in Prambanan Temple, the realizations of Modalities in the conversations between them, and the realizations of Attitudes in the conversations between them. The approach used in this of study is qualitative. There were several steps done to analyze the data. The data was divided into sentences. Eachsentence which had more than one clauses was divided again into clauses. The clauses werethen analyzed using Mood theory offered by Eggins (1994), Modality theory from Eggins and Slade (1997) and Attitudes theory from Martin and Rose (2003). The results of the analysis were tabulated. The results of Mood analyses are that the tour guide mostly uses declaratives in delivering information and ideas to the foreign tourists. Interrogatives are also used for asking things from the foreign tourists. Imperatives are also used in the conversations. The foreign tourists mostly speak using interrogatives. However, they also use declaratives to share their experiences. The results of Modality analyses show that most of the modalities used are capabilities. These show the degree of capability and what things people capable or not capable to do. Probabilities, usualities, obligations, and inclinations are also used in the conversations. The analyses of Attitudes reveal that the conversations contain some affections, judgments, and appreciations. vi TABLE OF CONTENTS Declaration of Originality • Toponymy of Cultural Heritage and Tourism in Yogyakarta Province
GEGN.2/2019/88/CRP.88 18 March 2019 Original: English United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names 2019 session New York, 29 April–3 May 2019 Item 7 (a) of the provisional agenda* National and international standardization of geographical names: names collection, office treatment, national authorities, features beyond a single sovereignty and international cooperation Toponymy of cultural heritage and tourism in Yogyakarta Province Submitted by Indonesia** Summary: Yogyakarta Province has a distinctive culture full of noble values. These noble values have been a philosophical foundation since Sultan Hamengku Buwono I began to establish Nagari Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat (Yogyakarta sultanate) with an independent government, people and territory. The sultanate later became part of Indonesia as a special region, commonly known as Yogyakarta or Jogjakarta. The local government of Yogyakarta utilizes the region’s cultural values to support interest in its tourist attractions. The use of cultural values (creations, tastes, ideas and works of the Special Region of Yogyakarta) is aimed at enhancing the image of prestige to improve the character and quality of the community; developing creative community-based products relating to cultural objects; and boosting the image of tourism. In the full report, the relationship between geographical names as cultural heritage and tourism in Yogyakarta is reviewed, as well as how cultural heritage influences the identity and image of tourism. Geographical names affect two areas. First, they provide value for tourist attractions and explain their historical origins. Second, they give relevance to certain tourist attractions, such as through demonstrating a philosophical axis or imaginary line. In conclusion, Yogyakarta is full of cultural heritage that has the potential to support tourism, and an understanding of geographical names since cultural heritage leads to innovation in the management of tourism.

  • Prambanan-An-Introduction.Pdf
An Introduction to Prambanan Located approximately 18 km east of Yogyakarta, Central Java. The UNESCO World Heritage Site named after the village of Prambanan, is the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia. Built around 850 CE by the Sanjaya Kings of the Mataram Kingdom, Prambanan is dedicated to the Hindu triad expression of God as: Brahma - the creator Vishnu- the preserver Shiva- the destroyer and also re-creator. Rakai (Lord) Pikatan of the Sanjaya family ruled between 833-856 CE. A rivalry was thought to have taken place between the Hindu Sanjayas and Buddhist Sailendra families and Rakai Pikatan married the daughter of the Sailendra Buddhist King Sumaratungga. The Sailendra dynasty fell into decline and Hindu expression become the dominant influence. It was believed that a ruler who died was transformed into a divine form. The towering 47m high central structure built to honor Lord Shiva is also interpreted to recognize their King as the deified self of Lord Shiva. Characterised by its tall and pointed structures, Prambanan is typical of Indianized-Hindu temple architecture. The central structures are inside a large complex of individual perwara (guardian) temples. At the height of the Mataram kingdom, scholars estimate that hundreds of Brahmins with their disciples lived near the temple compound. Abandonment In the 930s, the royal court shifted to East Java. While the reason for the shift remains uncertain, it was probably caused by an eruption of the volcano Merapi, located north of Prambanan, or a power struggle. This marked the beginning of the temple's decline. It was soon abandoned and began to deteriorate.
