Received 3rd February 2015/ Accepted 30th June 2015 Abstract. Jasmine (Jasminum sambac L.) is a flowering plant that grows in shrub form. Jasmine flowers have been extensively used as ornamental and for the production of fragrances, flowers, tea and essential oils. The amount of essential oil that can be collected from jasmine petals is very small relative to the material required, but is valued as the raw material for natural perfume and aromatherapy treatments. This study attempted to improve propagation from explant to manipulate essential jasmine oil production. Modified Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium, produced from carbohydrate precursor compounds (MS + 20 % fructose, MS + 20 % glucose and MS + 20 % sucrose), was used to produce explants from young leaves and calluses. Essential oil (benzyl acetate and jasmine) content was highest in jasmine explant calluses grown on MS + 20 % sucrose. The content of benzyl acetate reached 1.27 % and jasmone content reached 1.15 % in 12 weeks old calluses. Keywords: Benzyl acetate, Explant, Jasminum sambac L., Jasmone, Precursor. Rethinam¹ Abstract Cocoa pod borer Conopomorpha cramerella Snellen is an important pest of cocoa. Its recent invasion of cocoa in Papua New Guinea is threatening the sustainable coconut-cocoa cropping system. C. cramerella occurs only in South-East Asia and the western Pacific. It has been the single most important limiting factor to cocoa production in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. C. cramerella attacks cocoa, Theobroma cacao; rambutan, Nephelium lappaceum; cola, Cola acuminate; pulasan, Nephelium mutabile; kasai, Albizia retusa, nam-nam,Cynometra cauliflora; litchi (Litchi chinensis); longan (Dimocarpus longan) and taun, Pometia pinnata. The possible mode of its spread is through seed pods/fruits carried from previously infested regions. However, there is possibility of local adaptations of rambutan-feeders or nam-nam-feeders to cocoa. Females lay their eggs (50-100) on the surface of the unripe pods (more than five cm in length), which hatch in about 3-7 days and the emerging larvae tunnel their way to the center of the pod where they feed for about 14-18 days before chewing their way out of the pod to pupate. The pupal stage lasts 6- 8 days. The larval feeding results in pods that may ripen prematurely, with small, flat beans, often stuck together in a mass of dried mucilage. The beans from seriously infested pods are completely unusable and in heavy infestation over half the potential crop can be lost. Over four dozen species of natural enemies (parasitoids, predators, and entomopathogens) attack eggs, larvae, pupae and adults of C. -

This folk tale poignantly illustrates the importance of doing one’s best, no matter how insignificant our efforts may feel at times, in the face of a seemingly insurmountable task. Pillars: The mural pillars showcase the conceptual and artistic participation of the students and staff of the Student Community Center, and other members of the university community, who were invited to contribute their suggestions for the imagery featured, and who also participated in painting the individual tiles. Metal Thread Examination for Determining the Date, Origin and Distribution of Indonesian Songkèt Weaving presented by Puji Yosep Subagiyo1 International Symposium on Indonesian Textiles Jambi, November 6 ~ 9, 1996 A. INTRODUCTION Malaro (1985:3) states a museum definition as “a public or private nonprofit agency or institution organized on a permanent basis for essentially educational or esthetic purposes which, utilizing a professional staff, owns or utilizes tangible objects, cares for them, and exhibits them to the public on regular basis.” Considerable resources are required to store and conserve the museum object collections, and indeed to have access to them, can only be justified if the archives are available for use in the broadest sense. This requires that the collection be stored with the accessible information, and that this information be held on an organized documentation system. Also, the collection management is at the heart of a museum operation, because without collections there would be no broader issues of context and interpretation (Pearce, 1990: 67 & 113). In this connection, other authors2 provided the theoretical and empirical studies concerning cultural materials. They tried to measure the objects’ structure and property in reconstructing the human behavior involved in their processing and performance3. The author (1995a,b,c) then applied their system to study of Indonesian textiles, assuming that textiles are decontextualized objects. This paper discusses three metal threaded cloths, designated as TEX.01, TEX.02 and TEX.03 (see table 2) with the reference textiles. These three cloths are private collections which were purchased by Mr. Wahyono Martowikrido at Surakarta (Central Java), in 1985. -

Morphological, Anatomical, and Taxonomic Studies in Anomochloa and Streptochaeta (Poaceae: Bambusoideae). Smithsonian Contributions to Botany, number 68,52 pages, 24 figures, 1 table, 1989.-Although resembling the core group of the bambusoid grasses in many features of leaf anatomy, the Neotropical rainforest grass genera Anomochloa and Streptochaeta share characters that are unusual in the subfamily: lack of ligules, exceptionally long microhairs with an unusual morphology, a distinctive leaf blade midrib structure, and 5-nerved coleoptiles. Both genera also possess inflorescences that are difficult to interpret in conventional agrostological terms. Anomochloa is monotypic, and A. marantoidea, described in 1851 by Adolphe Brongniart from cultivated material of uncertain provenance, was rediscovered in 1976 in the wet forests of coastal Bahia, Brazil. The inflorescence terminates in a spikelet and bears along its rachis several scorpioid cyme-like partial inflorescences. Each axis of a partial inflorescence is subtended by a keeled bract and bears as its first appendages two tiny, unvascularized bracteoles attached at slightly different levels. The spikelets are composed of an axis that bears two bracts and terminates in a flower. The lower, chlorophyllous, deciduous spikelet bract is separated from the coriaceous, persistent, corniculate upper bract by a cylindrical, indurate internode. The flower consists of a low membrane surmounted by a dense ring of brown cilia (perigonate annulus) surrounding the andrecium of four stamens, and an ovary bearing a single hispid stigma. -

The musicologist Curt Sachs formulated that viewpoint in the Preface to his monumental "Geist und Werden der Musikinstrumente". He wrote: "To those who, during many years of work, have observed time and again how the rarest cultural forms — often with totally incidental structural features at that — occur in widely scattered parts of the world and, however, in all these places the symbolic and functional aspects have been preserved, it seems almost irrelevant to emphasize and defend the kinship of these cultural forms. He has gradually formed a great picture of a world-circling cultural kinship, created over thousands of years by man himself, through migrations and sea-voyages, despite all natural obstacles." In many instances, I myself was led to accept, on good grounds, that certain instrumental forms, musical scales, instrument-names, and melodies, now found in widely scattered areas, originated at the same cultural birthground. Thus I felt justified in suggesting that the gong, now found principally in Southeast Asia, but also in India and, in the Near East, amongst the Yemenite Jews and the Ethiopian Falasha, must have originated somewhere in Asia Minor or perhaps in Ancient Hellas.1 The Chinese plucked lute p'i-p'a seems to have been borrowed shortly before the 2nd century A.D. -

To circumvent many plant extracts have attributed for their chemoprotective potentials and their influence on the human immune system. It is now well recognized that immunomodulation of immune response could provide an alternative or addition to conventional chemotherapy for a variety of disease conditions. However, many hurdles still exist. In recent years, there has been a tremendous interest either in harnessing the immune system or towards plant-derived immunomodulators as anticancer agents for their efficacy, safety and their targeted drug action and drug de- livery mechanisms. -
