We've had reports of fish sellers going door-to-door in Mellis and Thornham Magna.

Unfortunately Trading Standards regularly receive calls from home owners who have been duped or bullied into spending large amounts of money on poor quality and misdescribed fish, sometimes not even fit for consumption.

These traders travel nationally, cold calling consumers’ homes selling the fish. This is often misdescribed, mislabelled or unlabelled, overpriced and sometimes underweight.

Our advice is, do not let uninvited doorstep sellers of any kind into your home.

For all your goods and services it is better to deal with reputable traders operating out of fixed premises who you know and trust.

If you have been approached to buy fish or any other goods or services in this way, or have any information on the sellers please report the matter to us via 03454 040506 or to Suffolk Police on 101.

So, how exactly are these going to fit into a UK plug socket?

These plugs are all fitted to a consignment of 175 food processors detained at the Port of by our Imports Surveillance Officers, and have failed safety testing.

The importer intended on selling the food processor to local retailer for them to sell on.

The consignment remains detained on the Port of Felixstowe while officers liaise with the importers local Trading Standards department.

We launched a new No Cold Calling Zone in Oulton Court in last week.

No Cold Calling Zones are specific geographical areas where residents have identified that they don't want visits from unsolicited or 'cold' callers.

No Cold Calling Zones allow residents to collectively prevent traders and salespersons from calling at their homes without a prior appointment. They're created in partnership with residents, Trading Standards, local Councillors, the police and other key local partners.

Would you like to have one in your road?

Email us with details of the area that you would like to have as a No Cold Calling Zone and we can see if it meets the proportionality test.
