July 2018 75 4th International Day of Yoga Dehradun witnessed Mass Yoga Demonstration, Prime Minister Modi Ji leads Address and Practice June 21: Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji lead around 50,000 people in marking the fourth edition of the International Day of Yoga Yoga Day on Thursday at the sprawling campus of the Forest Research Institute (FRI) in Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun. The Prime Minister was joined by State Chief Minister, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat and Union Minister of State for AYUSH Shri Shripad Yesso Naik. The United Nations declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga in 2014 after Prime Minister, Shri Modi ji called for the day to be adopted as a Global Celebration of Yoga, an ancient practice that began in India more than 5,000 years ago. 86 Yoga Sudha Celebration at S-VYASA Headquarters Prashanti Kutiram, Jigani, Bengaluru The official International Yoga Day protocol is practiced in fixed time from 7 am to 8 am in Vivekananda Rock, in the august presence of Dr. Nagaratna Didi, who joined with us to complete practice for one hour and followed by her blessings. There were 500 participants, BNYS students, BAMS students, YIC students, Teaching & Non- teaching Staff, Therapy Participants and few neighbors were also present in the practice. All the participants were involved actively in the celebration of IDY Program which was followed by distribution of sweets & Guruji addressed about IDY from New York. The program was ended with blessing from Dr. Nagaratna Didi, who explained, how June 21st is decided as International Yoga Day and its importance. Morning 7 - 8am around 95 employees participated in yoga practice session. Mr Krishna and Ms Pallavi conducted practice session. Seminar was organized between 9:15 - 10:45 am. Dr Raghavendra Bhat delivered a talk on ‘Workplace wellness through Yoga’. All the employees attended the seminar. NAAC Office, Bengaluru Dr. Sanjib Kumar Patra, an Associate Professor of S-VYASA was invited on 21st of June to deliver a talk on 'Overview of Yoga and its Practices '. International Day of Yoga function was inaugurated with the Chief Guest of the function, Dr. Patra, Director I/C, Dr. Latha Pillai and the Yoga Teacher Mr. Viresh. Director In Charge gave an inaugural talk and welcomed Dr. Patra and Mr. Viresh for the function. Later Dr. Patra delivered his talk for about 45 minutes for all NAAC staff in the seminar hall. Since his talk was meant for Non-Yoga professionals, it was well appreciated and the Institution decided to have a one-day seminar on various dimensions of Yoga for further motivation to its staff. Following the invited lecture, the Yoga teacher of NAAC, Mr. Viresh instructed couple of breathing practices and asked about six staff to demonstrate four Yoga postures each and this was indeed a motivating factor for the other staff to join the Yoga group soon. Following the demonstration, Mr. Viresh was felicitated by all the NAAC staff in the presence of Director in Charge and Dr. Patra for his contribution, dedication and conviction. Eventually this function was concluded with Satvic Ahara. ICMR Complex, Bengaluru Dr. Apar Avinash Saoji, Asst. Professor, S-VYASA was invited to Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) Complex, Bengaluru on 21st June 2018 for International Day of Yoga (IDY) Celebrations. ICMR Complex, Bengaluru consists of three premier research institutes 1412 Yoga Sudha Celebration in Bengaluru, Karnataka - National Center for Diseases Informatics and Research (NCDIR), National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR), Regional Occupational Health Center (ROHC). There were about 70 participants including Scientists, technical and non-technical staff from all three research organizations. Dr. Sukanya R., Scientist D, NCDIR, coordinator for the program welcomed the participants. During his talk for about 45 minutes, Dr. Apar gave an overview about what is Yoga, concept of health and disease through yoga, various practices of yoga with their effects on human body, application of yoga for managing stress and the overview of yoga therapy for non-communicable diseases. At last, the participants were briefed about the work done in academics, research and clinical practice of yoga at S-VYASA. The talk was followed by practice of yoga practices by all the participants. Two BNYS students, Mr. Amshuman Yadav, Final Year and Ms. Idhukala D, Third Year, who accompanied Dr. Apar helped the participants through demonstration of practices as well as corrections wherever required. Dr. Prashant Mathur, Director, NCDIR thanked S-VYASA Yoga University, Dr. Apar and the students for their continued support for IDY celebrations at ICMR Complex, Bengaluru for fourth consecutive year. He also hoped that the staff members of ICMR complex will continue to practice yoga. Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bengaluru S-VYASA faculties were been invited to conduct the IDY celebrations of Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Bengaluru which was conducted in the institution campus on 21st June 2018.The program started at morning 7am, were Dr. Thimappa Hegde, Director & Senior consultant, Dept of Neurosurgery, welcomed the team from S-VYASA and all other participants who had come to the function. From S-VYASA, Dr Tomson Jose, Asst Professor, July 2018 1513 along with four other intern doctors, Manisha Priya, Aarshi, Preeti Hegde and Sujay Kumar were present to lead the celebrations. Dr. Thimappa, in his welcome address briefed about Ashtanga Yoga and how it is related to human life. Followed by the welcome address, Dr. Tomson Jose started the Yoga session by explaining about the gaining importance of Yoga in the present era. Followed by this, a Yoga session was conducted by the S-VYASA team. Around 150 participants took part in the practical Yoga session, which includes 30 neurosurgeons and almost 70 nursing staffs of Narayana Hrudayalaya. The session was found to be very interesting by the participants and Dr.Komal Prasad, senior consultant, expressed his sincere thanks to S-VYASA team. Dr. Muralidhar Kanchi, Senior Consultant, Dept of Anesthesia and Critical Care briefed about the research advances happening in the field of Yoga. Dr. Subramanian Kannan, Consultant, Dept of Endocrinology also spoke about the importance of Yoga for keeping oneself healthy. The session was concluded by the vote of thanks by Dr. Komal Prasad. Income Tax Office, Vasant Nagar, Queen’s Road, Bengaluru On the occasion of International Yoga Day, a Yoga Camp was conducted by S-VYASA Deemed to be University, Bengaluru in Income Tax Office at Vasant Nagar, Queen’s Road by Dr. Sony Kumari (Associate Professor) along with two of the BNYS final year students named- Neha Jaroli and Prabhanjan D R. There were total 30 participants including male and female along with chief commissioner of Bengaluru and Goa region participated in this program.
