A report recently showed that repairs to public schools in our state have a backlog worth millions of dollars. Roof replacement, floor coverings, lighting, fencing and painting are among the increasingly urgent needs of our schools. Schools in the Wallsend electorate need over $6 million in repairs. This is symptomatic of the reluctance by the Government to invest in our young people’s future. The universal approval shown for the findings of the Gonski report have not been followed up with dollars, and cuts to TAFE have left the State’s premier provider of vocational education wounded. I know that better funding for our public schools will provide better outcomes, better teacher support and better educated It was great to speak with the school captains and young people.
