Press Release Press release Utrecht, 28 April 2011 Stork Technical Services Holding B.V. Van Deventerlaan 101 Visiting address: van Deventerlaan 121 3528 AG Utrecht P.O. Box 2776, 3500 GT Utrecht The Netherlands Telephone: +31 (0)30 669 18 80 Telefax: +31 (0)30 666 18 13 E-mail: [email protected] Web: www.storktechnicalservices.com Stork Technical Services main sponsor of ‘Nacht van Hengelo’ cycle race Next step in sponsoring of professional cycle racing Stork Technical Services (STS) will for the next three years be the main sponsor of the Nacht van Hengelo cycle race, which will be called the ‘Stork Technical Services Nacht van Hengelo’. This sponsoring will support the professional criterium race in Hengelo in its ambitions to develop into one of the top five professional criteriums in the Netherlands. Stork Technical Services has already been supporting the mechanics of the Rabo Cycling Teams for a number of weeks, for example with equipment, advice and innovative concepts for maintenance, stock management and safety of the vehicle fleet. The sponsoring of the Nacht van Hengelo now represents a further step by STS in its support for professional cycling. As well as providing financial support, the Stork Technical Services partnership with the Rabo Cycling Teams and the experience gained through it will help to raise the standing of the professional criterium to a higher level. Stork Technical Services deliberately chose the Nacht van Hengelo because this city is where the company was founded. This is where at the beginning of the 19th century Charles Theodorus Stork at the age of 13 started the company that was to develop into the present Stork Technical Services. STS has now for more than 180 years been a provider of advisory and maintenance services to companies in the chemical, oil & gas, energy and other industries. “Stork Technical Services has for almost two centuries had strong links with the Twente region”, says Robert Nijhuis, Vice President Process Equipment at Stork Technical Services. “That’s why we are very happy to take this opportunity to support this fantastic local sports event. At the same time this sponsoring is the starting signal for Stork Technical Services to show our customers that Stork Thermeq and Stork Primoteq from now on form part of Stork Technical Services.” The new company structure is a further step in implementing the ‘ONE Stork’ process to enable the company to meet its customers’ demands for a single point of contact and an integrated services offering. In the new Stork Technical Services business model Stork Thermeq is part of the Process Equipment Business Line, which has its head office in Hengelo, while Stork Primoteq will be part of the Manufacturing Services Product Line. Stork Technical Services initiated the transformation in 2010 from a regional provider of specialized services into an international partner providing services to major companies in the energy and process industries. Stork Technical Services Holding B.V. (Chamber of Commerce nr. 32170594, Utrecht) is part of the Stork Concern. Stork Technical Services Holding B.V. Date 28 April 2011 Subject Sponsoring ‘Nacht van Hengelo” Page 2 of 2 The sponsoring agreement will provide valuable support in further professionalizing the Nacht van Hengelo , believes Jeroen Wevers, member of the event’s organizing committee. “The partnership with a renowned company like Stork Technical Services is a tremendous step that takes us closer to our goal of gaining a place among the top five one-day cycle races in the Netherlands.” About the Stork Technical Services Nacht van Hengelo This year’s Nacht van Hengelo will be held on 3 June for the 36th time. A top professional field will cover a distance of 90 kilometers through the inner city of Hengelo in less than 2 hours. Since the first edition in 1975, the professional criterium has grown into one of the biggest (sports) events in the Twente region, and attracts an audience of tens of thousands of enthusiastic supporters encouraging the riders. Winners of the event in past years have included top names such as Gerrie Knetemann, Hennie Kuiper, Joop Zoetemelk, Jan Raas, Erik Breukink, Rudie Kemna, Johan Museeuw, Erik Dekker, Joost Posthuma, Robbie McEwen and Michael Boogerd. This year’s list of participants will be announced at the end of May. • More information about the sponsoring will be available shortly on the STS Sponsor page . • News about the Nacht van Hengelo is also available on the STS Twitter feed. • For more information about the Nacht van Hengelo , visit: www.nachtvanhengelo.nl About Stork Technical Services Stork Technical Services is an international provider of knowledge-based Asset Integrity Management services for the Chemical, Oil & Gas and Power industries.

  • Learning from the Netherlands to Improve Outcomes for New Zealand's Children
1000 Days to get it right for every child The Netherlands Study Learning from the Netherlands to improve outcomes for New Zealand’s children A report prepared by Rowe Davies Research for Every Child Counts He Mana tō ia Tamati - Every Child Counts He Mana tō ia Tamati - Every Child Counts, formed in 2004, is and coalition of organisations and individuals; led by Barnardos, Plunket, Save the Children, Unicef and Te Kahui Mana Ririki. We believe that a positive, economically sustainable future for New Zealand is only possible if: Children are placed at the centre of government policy and planning Child poverty is eradicated Child maltreatment is reduced Every child is given a good start in their early years The status of children and of the child-rearing roles of fami- lies, whānau, hapū and iwi are increased. 1000 days to get it right for every child The first 1000 days of a child’s life are critical to their long term de- velopment. One thousand days is also approximately the duration of one term of parliament. So we have about 1000 days to get it right. Getting it right in those first 1000 days means today’s young chil- dren are given every opportunity to develop their full potential as healthy, emotionally mature, socially engaged and well-educated, productive adults. Low and ineffective public investment in the early years of child- hood costs us dearly – approximately 3 per cent of GDP. Things need to change. That’s why we are campaigning to make it a priority issue through the 1000 days of this term of parliament.

(Pindar) Water. There's too much of it, or too little. It's too salty, or too sweet. It wells up from the ground, carves itself a way through the land, and then it's called a river or a stream. It descends from the heavens in a variety of forms - as dew or hail, to mention just the extremes. And then, of course, there is the all-encompassing water which we call the sea, and which reminds us of the beginning of all things. The English once labelled the Netherlands across the North Sea ‘this indigested vomit of the sea’. But the Dutch went to work on that vomit, systematically and stubbornly: ‘... their tireless hands manufactured this land, / drained it and trained it and planed it and planned’ (James Brockway). As God's subcontractors they gradually became experts in living apart together. Look carefully at the first photo. The water has struck again. We're talking 1926. Gelderland. The small, stocky woman visiting the stricken province is Queen Wilhelmina. Without turning a hair she allows herself to be carried over the waters.

  • Paris-Roubaix 1983
MONUMENT Paris-Roubaix 1983 HENNIE’S RESULTS 1973 31 at 27:36 1974 42 at 23:46 1975 29 at 16:28 1976 4 in the same time as the winner 1977 10 at 1:39 1978 6 at 4:26 3 1979 3 at 0:40 1980 14 at 10:38 1981 6 in the same time as the winner 1982 15 at 2:38 1983 1 1984 9 at 6:16 1985 8 at 3:30 1987 11 at 3:12 Hennie Kuiper lined up for his eleventh Paris-Roubaix on 10 April 1983. Although victory had eluded him on his previous ten attempts, Kuiper still regarded the Queen of the Classics as ‘his’ race. Paris-Roubaix, or the Hell of the North as it is also known, featured all the competitive ingredients he loved: an ordeal that only a rider with unimaginable perseverance and equally unimaginable willpower could withstand. The distance alone – between 255 and 265 kilometres as a rule – is enough to separate the men from the boys before the starting gun has even sounded. And the course itself, around 60 kilometres of which runs over ruthless stretches of cobbles, wears the riders down. The ride from Paris to Roubaix is a journey into pain. Rattling over those bald lumps of stone is hell on the joints. Your wrists, backside, and of course your legs are tested to breaking point. The weather often plays a decisive role, especially when the heavens open and mud from the sodden fields seeps onto the road. Road spatters leave many a rider peering out from behind a clay mask, as they slip, slide, tumble, get back up again, and doggedly give chase.
