Examensarbetet har utförts på The Absolut Company i samarbete med institutionen för teknisk ekonomi och logistik. Problemställning: Hur skall The Absolut Company hantera den alltmer abstrakta produktionsplaneringen som uppstått som en orsak av förändringen i marknadsstrukturen, företagets tillväxt samt den begränsade produktions- och lagringskapaciteten? Hade andra prioriteringsregler mellan nyckeltalen verksamheten följs upp med givit ett bättre sammanvägt utfall? Kan den generella nivån för nyckeltalen hos The Absolut Company höjas genom användande av någon alternativ metod för produktionsplanering eller lagerstyrning? Metod: Studien har bedrivits med ett positivistiskt förhållningssätt och med en deduktiv undersökningsansats. Såväl kvantitativ som kvalitativ data ligger till grund för studien, både i primär och sekundär form. Intervjuer som utförts har främst varit av semistrukturerad karaktär, inslag av strukturerade intervjuer har dock funnits. Övrig datainsamling har skett genom observationer, litteraturstudier och insamlig av tidigare skapad data från företaget i fråga. Insamlad data har strukturerats och värderats III med hjälp av analysmodeller och statistisk bearbetning. Studiens trovärdighet har styrkts såväl gällande objektivitet, reliabilitet och validitet. Slutsatser: Dagens lagerstyrning och produktionsplanering sker till stor del med manuella metoder och principer som använts under lång tid och enbart modifierats i obetydlig omfattning. Uppföljningen av berörd verksamhet sker främst utifrån tre nyckeltal; servicenivå, verkningsgrad och lageromsättningshastighet. Ett bolag av The Absolut Companys dignitet är i behov av bättre styrning av verksamheten varvid en rad områden med förbättringspotential har identifierats. Dagens partiformningsmetod har ej någon teoretisk förankring. Genom att dimensionera sina partistorlekar med hjälp av Wilsonformeln kan The Absolut Company minska sina kostnader samtidigt som ökning av servicenivå och verkningsgrad möjliggörs. Medelst att dimensionera sitt säkerhetslager efter önskad servicenivå kan The Absolut Company klara av förändringar i marknadsstrukturen, företagets tillväxt samt den begränsade produktions- och lagringskapaciteten. Genom att kombinera beräknade partistorlekar och säkerhetslager med teoretiska lagerstyrningssystem kan den generella nivån för de aktuella nyckeltalen höjas till följd av en effektivare styrning. Det nyckeltalet som förblir oförändrat är lageromsättningshastigheten, detta anser dock författarna vara det nyckeltal som bör prioriteras sekundärt. Lageromsättningshastigheten följer av en önskad servicenivå och kan inte påverkas i samma utsträckning av en i övrigt effektivare lagerstyrning. IV Det för The Absolut Company anpassade lagerstyrningssystemet utnyttjar och kombinerar de positiva aspekter som uppnås av ett R,Q respektive s,S-system. Systemet prioriterar hög servicenivå samt att aldrig kapacitetstaken tangeras. Detta uppnås genom att partistorlekarna ej tillåts underskrida den framräknade optimala partistorleken. Författarna har valt att rekommendera detta lagerstyrningssystem för The Absolut Companys verksamhet. Nyckelord: Lagerstyrning, Partiformning, Produktionsplanering, Servicenivå, Säkerhetslager V VI Abstract Title: Efficient production and logistics interaction at The Absolut Company Authors: Henrik Karlsson & Henrik Ållemark Supervisors: Johan Lundin, Department of Industrial Management and Logistics Purpose: Analyze the current inventory and production management at The Absolut Company and suggest areas for improvements. Problem definition: How can The Absolut Company handle the increasing complexity in the production planning due to market changes, increased turnover and limited capacity of production and warehousing? Will other priority rules than the current ones generate better outcome regarding the essential key performance indicators? Is it possible to increase the overall level of the essential key performance indicators by using alternative inventory management? Method: This study has been pursued with a positivistic approach and a deductive research policy. Quantitative as well as qualitative data has been used to solve the problem. The collected data has been both in form of primary and secondary variety. Performed interviews are mainly conducted in a semi-structured way, but also structured interviews are performed. Remaining data gathering includes observations, literature studies and collection of former analyzed data from The Absolut Company. Collected data has been structured and processed by a synthesis of analysis models and statistical methods. The VII credibility of the study are strengthened regarding objectivity, reliability and validity. Conclusions: The management of production planning and inventory control are mainly fulfilled with manual methods. The methods have been used during long time and are only exposed to petty changes over time. Three key performance indicators, service level, production efficiency and inventory turn-over, are used for analyzing the production and logistics at The Absolut Company. A firm with The Absolut Company´s dignity is in need of better management of their operations. A number of areas with potential improvements have been identified. The lot sizing method of today has a faint theoretical connection. The Absolut Company is able to reduce their costs, as well as a rise in service level and production efficiency appears, by dimensioning their lot sizes with the Wilson formula. By letting the size of the safety stock correspond to the desired service level the company get better presumptions to handle market changes increased turn-over and limited capacity of production and warehousing. More efficient production planning and inventory control will be achieved by combining the new lot sizes and safety stock in a theoretical inventory control system. This leads to an increased overall level of the essential key performance indicators. The only key performance indicator that will remain on the same level is the inventory turn-over. The authors evaluate that inventory turn-over should be a secondary priority and as a result of the desired service level. The inventory control system designed especially for The Absolut Company uses and combines the VIII positive aspects that can be achieved by both a R,Q and a s,S-system. The system prioritizes high service level in addition to no capacity exceeding, neither regarding production nor warehousing. This will be obtained through consequent use of optimal lot sizes without any downsizing. The authors have chosen to recommend this inventory control system for the operations at The Absolut Company. Introduction The Federal Trade Commission (“Commission”) has accepted, subject to final approval, an Agreement Containing Consent Orders (“consent agreement”)from Respondent Pernod Ricard S.A. (“Pernod Ricard”) in connection with its proposed acquisition of V&S Vin & Sprit AB (Publ)(“V&S”) from The Kingdom of Sweden. Among other things, the consent agreement requires that Pernod Ricard, currently the distributor of Stolichnaya Vodka, as a condition to acquiring V&S and its Absolut Vodka brand, cease distributing Stolichnaya Vodka. Pernod Ricard obtained the rights to distribute the Stolichnaya Vodka brand from its owner, Spirits International BV (“SPI”), a corporation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and organized and doing business under the laws of The Netherlands. Absolut Vodka and Stolichnaya Vodka are “super premium” vodkas and, for a substantial number of consumers, they are close price substitutes. Total annual United States retail sales of these two brands are about $1.9 billion. The Commission and Respondent Pernod Ricard also have agreed to entry of an Order To Hold Separate and Maintain Assets (“Hold Separate Order”). The Hold Separate Order requires Pernod Ricard to maintain the competitive viability of assets relating to the distribution of Stolichnaya Vodka during the six-month period that the consent agreement permits it to own Absolut Vodka while also distributing Stolichnaya. The Hold Separate Order further requires that Pernod Ricard refrain from exercising direction or control over the Stolichnaya Vodka distribution business. Pernod Ricard must nevertheless maintain all Stolichnaya Vodka operations in the regular and ordinary course in accordance with past practices.
