Geonomenclature 2003 EDITION Geonomenclature EUROPEAN THEME 6 COMMISSION 6External trade A great deal of additional information on the European Union is available on the Internet. It can be accessed through the Europa server (http://europa.eu.int). Luxembourg: Office for Official Publications of the European Communities, 2003 ISSN 1725-0153 ISBN 92-894-4903-9 © European Communities, 2003 Contents Page Introduction …… …………………….. 5 Maps … ……………… ……………… 7 Geonomenclature 2003 … ……………… 21 Economic zones 2003 …………………... 39 Geographical zones 2003 … ……………. 45 Development of the codes since 1976 ….… 51 Alphabetical index in English ………….….. 67 Alphabetical index in French ……… ……... 83 Introduction The country nomenclature for the external trade statistics of the Community and statistics of trade between Member States - known as the "geonomenclature", abbreviated to GEONOM - is an essential element in compiling these statistics. In particular, it makes itpossible to identify those involved in trade, i.e. the reporting country and the partner country. The creation, maintenance and use of this nomenclature are laid down by Article 9 of Council Regulation (EC) No 1172/95 of 22.05.1995 (OJ L 118 of 25.05.1995) on the statistics relating to the trading of goods by the Community and its Member States with non-member countries. As for the stastistics on intra-Community trade, Article 22 of Council Regulation (EC) No 1901/2000 of 07.09.2000 directly defines the codes to be used by the fifteen Member States for their intra-Community commercial transactions. The geonomenclature is subject to annual revision in order to incorporate the adjustments needed for statistical purposes and to take into account any geopolitical changes that may have occurred. Commission Regulation (EC) No 1779/2002 of 4 October 2002, which lays down the geonomenclature applicable for 2003, was published in OJ L 269 of 5 October 2002. The purpose of this publication is to provide users with all the supplementary information on the GEONOM 2003that is essential to understand its content and to illustrate the changes in country codes in order to facilitate analysis of the results of the statistics on the European Union’s external trade. With a view to improving the next edition and providing a better response to users’ needs, any corrections or comments would be welcome. 5 Maps Cartes 2003 page 10 page 16 075 024 page 12 030 041 079 032 028 053 075 006 054 008 055 076 081 083 007 003 073 077 078 080 060 002 082 page 17 406 004 072 061 037 063 074 400 038 039 064 001 066 660 091 092 047 093 094 068 043 096 046 070 662 075 005 009 010 044 011 404 046 716 404 408 724 728 732 720 672 675 400 413 666 736 676 743 740 664 684 680 708 696 690 669 703 701 667 706 700 412 700 700 421 700 416 424 432 700 428 442 436 400 453 810 820 810 825 824 448 454 823 803 812 801 806 452 468 463 807 811 456 446 814 400 464 001/478 819 459 810 457 816 449 822 470 001 809 815 817 800 460 001 802 813 465 804 469 467 474 GS 473 478 472 BV page 13 page 18 AQ TF 484 488 492 001 480 500 TF 504 508 516 page 11 page 19 520 524 528 529 512 page 14 Maps - We do not dispute the potential for negative effects of certain kinds of oil development but rather propose that some of the negative causality can be managed and transformed to lead to positive outcomes. Using a comparative study of oil company behavior in Angola and Equatorial Guinea, the research detects three main factors that have affected the behavior of oil companies since the Earth Summit in 1992. First, there is a growing movement of corporate social responsibility in businesses due to changes in leadership and corporate culture. Second, the ‘globalization’ of environmental movements has affected the behavior of companies through threats of litigation and stakeholder action. Third, governments in Africa have increasingly become stricter in regulating companies for environmental and social issues due to a transformation of domestic norms and international requirements.

These obstacles make ultra-peripheral regions suitable case studies considering their territorial governance and consequently, sustainable development and growth. Thus, transportation and infrastructure sustainability in these regions are not an exception. Con- sidering all the obstacles present in these regions, the accessibility and connectivity patterns that the local population has in these territories should be assessed and monitored.

Key words: AMS technique, basaltic dykes, magma flow direction, Corvo Island, Azores.
