It has been an exciting first year. The people of the 15th have given us reasons to continue celebrating the goodness of God. They are wonderful, dedicated and hardworking people who love the Lord and African Methodism. Thank you, precious people of the 15th for given us unprecedented support, cooperation and encouragement since our arrival. Frankly, you are the BEST in all of African Methodism. We arrived six years ago believing that the people of the 15th were destined for greatness because you are great people of God created with divine purpose. You have not stopped showering us with love, respect and unparalleled reasons to get excited about working as your servant leaders. Supervisor Moth- er Irene Moifoi Daniels and I are praying for God to bless us with spirit-filled fruitful Annual Conferences this year as well. We praised God that you have embraced the 3 E’s which define our ministry and Episcopacy. Evangelism – Feel It – Our focus this year is on “The Great Commission”, Anvil theme. Our middle management team has welcomed our theme: “Vision 15th/15th”. We are praying, planning and working for God to double our membership and stewardship in 15 years. We, the District Leader- ship want each Presiding Elder to plant at least one new church per year in his Presiding Elder’s District. We are encouraging every church to make “seeking to save souls” a top priority. We are intentionally providing opportunities for our people to sit under good sound teaching. The Lord has blessed us to bring in preachers and teachers to teach and preach to our people during all or annual conferences and meetings. Education – See It – We are in the developing stage of organizing a seminary for the 15th Episcopal District. I have commissioned Rev. Dr. Albert D. Tyson, III to work with Payne Theological Seminary and he has made the proper connection with the Rev. Dr. Michael J. Brown, President of PTS. Reverends Willem Burger, Keith Links and Quinton Liebenberg flew to the United States out of their own resources to work with Dr. Brown and his staff in finalizing the Memorandum of Understanding, (MOU). I flew to Dayton, Ohio, where Payne Theological Seminary is located to be with them in the dialogue and discussions. These brothers deserved our high commendations for their commitment to our theological educational priorities. We are prioritizing and en- couraging our local churches to establish schools. We are encouraging existing schools to expand. Economic Empowerment – Live It – We have organized ourselves to invest in the building of Student residence as a viable economic project for the 15th Episcopal District. When this Vision is actualized, it will create and generate needed funding for building new churches, new schools and funding the establishment of new congregations in new commu- nities across the District. We praise God for the willingness of the wonderful people of the 15th Episcopal District to raise our own connectional budget each year. We are thankful to God for enabling the 15th Episcopal District, the “Can Do Attitude People’s Team”, to be committed to economic development for self-sustainability. In addition, we are appreciative to all our people for seeing the need to assist in raising money for the tremendous legal debt we inherited. To God be the Glory! Supervisor Mother Irene M. Daniels and I thank you for your commitment to exploring and finding sustainable initiative for economic development and investment for our future. Today, Big Bethel AME Church - Atlanta’s oldest African American church congregation - celebrates One Hundred Seventy-Two (172) years of worship, fellowship and ministry. Big Bethel has withstood the test of time and yet, God still signifies Big Bethel as a Beacon of Light for downtown Atlanta which still proudly proclaims that “Jesus Saves.” At this time of celebration – let us all give thanks and honor to the glory of God for Big Bethel AME Church. These women face tremendous obstacles as they seek to lead the twenty-first century church. This thesis investigates the role of African American women in the Black Baptist church to identify skills necessary for successful leadership within the denomination. Going beyond analysis and exploration, it answers the question of how to develop a training and mentorship program specifically designed to prepare African-American women for excellence in leadership. A survey of fifty church staff and members of various Black Baptist churches was conducted to determine the perspective and experiences of women in leadership. Interviews with three women serving as pastors within the Black Baptist church facilitated in the gathering of key data. This information was used to format a training and mentoring manual that effectively prepare African American women for leadership in the Black Baptist church.

MASON SEMINARY, INTER- DENOMINATIONAL THEOLOGICAI, CENTER, 1999 THE IMPACT OF SEXISM ON AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN MINISTERS IN SELECTED BRANCHES OF METHODISM AS PERCEIVED BY CLERGYWOMEN: 1980-2000 Advisor: Josephine Bradley, Ph.D. Dissertation dated May 2008 This study analyzed sexism as it was perceived by clergywomen within the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, and the United Methodist Church. Specifically, this research analyzed the impact of sexism on thirty African-American women ministers in Methodism between 1980-2000. This study was conducted using a case study analysis, which allowed the researcher to detect seven factors which impact the lives of women ministers in terms of: 1 (1) Women and/or men's opposition to female leadership in the Church, (2) Socio- political-theological systems, (3) Perception of inferiority, (4) Interpretation of scripture, (5) Slow ordination process or denial, (6) The appointment process and/or appointment to smaller churches, and (7) Lower clergy salaries. The conclusion drawn from these findings suggests that the social implications influencing sexism in the Church is primarily laced in traditionalism. The significance of this study advances the knowledge of sexism in the Church, and how sexism impacts the lives of women in the workplace in general, and African- American women ministers in particular. This study also advances the knowledge pertaining to clergywomen's perception of religious sexism and leadership in the Church. Therefore, it is a contribution to religious studies, African-American studies, humanities, church leaders as well as womanist studies.

For far too long, this community has endured mistreatment in American society, including within parts of the church. We regret and lament our collective misdeeds and omissions in that regard. While we maintain the historic Christian sexual ethic, we want to clearly state our support for federal protections for LGBT persons in employment, housing and the like. We’re committed to embracing and advocating for those safeguards. Unfortunately, the collaborative process and substance of the Equality Act fall well beneath the standard necessary to cultivate a healthy pluralistic society. While we support certain provisions, the legislation, on the whole, is not the product of a thoughtful and healthy civic dialogue or a transparent policy-making process. It was not discussed in detail with a diverse set of faith leaders who’ll bear the brunt of its excesses and who worked hard to elect you and President Joe Biden. It’s a danger not just to Christian institutions, but those belonging to our Jewish, Sikh, Buddhist, and Muslim neighbors as well. We can defend the rights of the LGBT community without threatening religious communities. The Equality Act is a reflection of our broken system, not an example of the civic spirit and good faith measures necessary to heal it.

Bryant Recognized as a prolific orator, exceptional visionary, philanthropist, and proponent of social justice, Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant embodies the mission that guides his life: To change the world with the Word. The global outreach of his work as a pastor, community activist, and businessman spans over 20 years. Dr. Bryant continues to build his spiritual legacy with his appointment as the Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church (Lithonia, GA) in December 2018. His leadership efforts have already begun to strengthen the multi-generational bond among members, expand outreach, cultivate families and continue the church’s solid legacy of cultural significance and community involvement. A third-generation minister, Dr. Bryant possesses an undeniable gift to bridge generations from the Civil Rights movement to the Black Lives Matter era. His ability to reach across social, economic and political barriers has inspired people to succeed in their everyday lives, but more importantly, to experience the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ. While many would foresee a bleak future for a young man who failed the eleventh grade and dropped out of High School, Dr. Bryant’s personal story of resilience and discipline propelled him over the roadblocks and through an impressive educational journey. After obtaining his G.E.D, Dr. Bryant earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and International Studies from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. In fact, he was the very first student accepted into Morehouse with a G.E.D. He later went on to acquire a Master of Divinity Degree from Duke University and in 2005 was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Ministry Degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Mishawaka, Indiana while also attending the world-renowned University of Oxford in Great Britain.
