  • With Israel? Malaysiakini.Com 14 Februari 2018 Has Malaysia
Harapan MP: Is Malaysia having ‘an affair’ with Israel? MalaysiaKini.com 14 Februari 2018 Has Malaysia softened its stance on Israel by allowing the latter's high- ranking officials to enter the country, questioned an Amanah lawmaker today. Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad in a statement said the government's "unannounced" move had caused shock and sadness amongst many Muslims in the country. "Have we pawned the pride of Muslims in matters concerning Israel just for the sake of money and trade? “Just days after the deputy prime minister sent home 12 Uighur Muslims back to China on the pretext of maintaining "good relations" between the two countries what has become of Muslim dignity and pride in the country?" he asked. Kamarul Bahrin was responding to news reports that a delegation of Israeli diplomats had attended the recent week-long ninth Urban World Forum in Kuala Lumpur. The delegation was reportedly led by David Roet who was formerly Israel's deputy ambassador to the United Nations. Kamarul Bahrin urged Malaysia to state clearly, its current position on Israel. "Is this a product of the wasatiyah concept practised by (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak) or upon the advice of the 'Global Movement of Moderates' led by Nasaruddin Mat Isa and which had caused the government's change in attitude and policy? The rakyat wants to know. "Or is Najib so eager to follow in the footsteps of the Saudi Arabian government which reportedly has close ties to Israel? Is Malaysia having an 'affair' with Israel'?" he asked.

Reply to YB Dr. Ong Kian Ming, Member of Parliament for Bangi and Dr. Kelvin Yii, Member of Parliament for Bandar Kuching I thank you for your questions and your efforts in increasing registration among people in your respective constituencies. I will take your questions in turn below. 1. What is the geographical distribution of those above 60 who have yet to register for the COVID19 vaccine? Currently, registration for those above 60 stands at 40.1%. It ranges from 56.8% in Putrajaya, to 22.9% in Sabah. For States with low registration numbers such as in Sabah, Kelantan (25.1%), Terengganu (29.4%), Kedah (30.9%) and Pahang (31.5%), we are working with MKN, NADMA and the state governments on an outreach programme to encourage people to register, particularly for senior citizens. The outreach programme is not only to help them register for PICK but also to convince them on why it is important for people their age to be vaccinated against COVID-19. We also assure them that the vaccines are safe, effective and if they have any religious concerns, we also reassure them that the vaccines are halal. We are also working with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development to register and vaccinate residents and caregivers at elderly care homes. Mobile vaccination teams will be sent to the care homes to vaccinate on site. 2. What steps have been taken to work with state governments in order to increase the vaccine registration rate? I have spoken to all Menteris Besar and Chief Ministers virtually over the last month and a half.

February 11, 2016 The Honorable Mr. Barack Obama President of the United States of America The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20500 Dear Mr. President, As members of parliament from Southeast Asia, dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights, we write to express our desire for you to make discussion of human rights and the democratic aspirations of the people of ASEAN a priority during the upcoming summit at the Sunnylands estate in California on 15-16 February 2016. As you are surely aware, democracy is struggling in Southeast Asia. Many countries in our region have taken dramatic steps backward in the past two years. While Southeast Asia appeared to be on the cusp of a genuine political transformation only a few years ago, more recently the region has instead witnessed military takeovers, the rollback of fundamental rights, intensifying government-sponsored discrimination against ethnic and religious minorities, and the increasing persecution of activists and opposition voices, including fellow parliamentarians. These setbacks constitute a fundamental threat to the future of the ASEAN Community and the US relationship with it. While we recognize and understand your administration’s desire to strengthen trade and security cooperation with Southeast Asian governments, we urge you to proceed with caution. Human rights, democracy, and basic dignity cannot take a backseat to economic or security prerogatives. Open dialogue on fundamental political and rights-based questions is vital to ensuring the sustainability of bilateral relationships and promoting broad-based benefits of trans-Pacific cooperation. When you sit down with ASEAN leaders in California, we urge you to press them on unfulfilled human rights commitments and to directly raise specific concerns with them.
