(www.gruporica.com) Dominican Republic Junior Consultant on Food Safety and Quality Management System Jan/2009-Jul/2009 LDM & Asociados Dominican Republic RESEARCH Short Description My goal during my pursuit of a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics at Louisiana State University was to accumulate enough quantitative tools to analyze the factors affecting the ag-sector in Latin-America, and more specifically the Dominican Republic. Thus, in this quest I decided to start my research journey from the consumer side by learning how to characterize demand for ag-commodities. Eventually, I would like to execute research on international trade, production economics, ag-labor economics, ag-finance, social mobility in the ag-sector, among others. In my dissertation, “USA demand analysis for fresh bell pepper: A seasonal & dynamic IAIDS approach”, I am using an Inverse AIDS model to estimate the demand for fresh bell pepper produced locally, imported from Mexico, and imported from the rest of world (ROW). My dissertation is described as follow: IAIDS: Differentiating by source: Mexico, USA, ROW o I have calculated the demand for bell pepper produced locally, imported from Mexico and the ROW. More specifically, I estimated how own and cross prices respond to changes in quantity demanded in the US (own-cross price flexibilities) Seasonal IAIDS: Differentiating by source: Mexico, USA, ROW o Due to the influence of seasonality in the supply of bell pepper, I calculated seasonal varying own-cross price flexibilities. IAIDS: Differentiating by source and color o To circumvent the assumption of all bell-peppers are homogenous, green and colored bell pepper were disaggregated, thus calculating own-cross price flexibilities differentiating by color and source. Dynamic specification of the IAIDS model for bell pepper: o Due to delay in response to changes in quantity, a dynamic IAIDS model is more appropriate. Thus, I have incorporated past consumption habit into the static model. PUBLICATION Peguero, F. and Bueso, F. 2007.
