Forefront Church // Weekly Gel Group Study This study CAN be used individually, but we believe it’s best served by studying TOGETHER as a group. The early church gathered together and studied the teaching of Jesus and at Forefront we strive to follow that example. If you’re looking for a gel group, please email [email protected] and we will get back to you on the best group to find community and Bible study. Series: The Konami Code This Week’s Theme: Godʼs Word Combats Sin The Intro: Much like the infamous Konami Code (old code for Nintendo game "Contra"), there are millions of things that creep into our heads that we cannot get rid of. From the lyrics to Tiny Dancer to those commercials with that stupid Gecko- we cannot seem to shake them out of our heads. What if we learned to put more than just movie quotes and song lyrics inside our little brains? What if we remembered things that matter? Well, in this series, "The Konami Code" we'll take a look at how The Bible (God's Word) brings revolution, combats sin, provides guidance, and brings life change. Group Ice Breaker: What is the strangest disagreement youʼve ever had? What caused it and how did you get through it? Notes: Throughout the Bible you see where Godʼs people use scripture to defend themselves, prove a point and to Combat evil (sin). As we continue our series “The Konami Code”, letʼs look into how reading, understanding and memorizing Godʼs word can both improve our lives and is the very weapon we need to combat sin. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lordʼs people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. Matthew 4:1-11 1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ʻMan shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.ʼ[b]” 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “ʻHe will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.ʼ[c]” 7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ʻDo not put the Lord your God to the test.ʼ[d]” 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” 10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ʻWorship the Lord your God, and serve him only.ʼ[e]” 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. Psalm 119:11 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you..
