Alphabet Action Man Game Alphabet Action Man! Lose the Drill & Kill – Make it FUN!! WHAT AND WHY: Too often, students with significant disabilities are taught the alphabet through flip cards and other boring, inauthentic tasks. The Alphabet Action Man Game is a quick activity for making alphabet instruction fun and meaningful. WHO IS THIS FOR: This game is great for students who are learning the alphabet, but needing to connect letters to meaning. It’s also great for students who find it difficult to attend to lengthy instruction. The game offers a quick chance to engage with the alphabet while taking a ‘movement break.’ HOW TO PLAY IT: 1) When the students are starting to get antsy, let one student pick a letter. Note – be sure to let students pick from the entire alphabet. Sample ways to pick are: a) Alternative pencils (ex: Alphabet Flipboard) b) Magnetic ABCs app c) Alphabet page on their AAC device / app d) Word Wizard app Note: Don’t spend long picking a letter – this should be quick!! 2) Have two people call out an action to go with the letter. For example, if the letter is J: a) Teacher calls out ‘Jog’ b) Para calls out ‘Jive’ c) One student quickly votes for jog d) All students ‘jog’ as leader holds up letter J (on popsicle stick) and chants “Let’s jog, jog, jog for J” REMEMBER! Veterans for Peace say the films are an attempt to draw attention to the way the British Army targets teenagers and even young children in its search for new recruits while ignoring and downplaying the often-brutal repercussions of military service in their advertising. The UK is one of fewer than twenty countries worldwide that still recruits sixteen year olds into its armed forces.1 Most countries only recruit adults aged eighteen and above.

The first section briefly reviews the early work on nuclear fission and neutron emission, the impact of Einstein's letter to President Roosevelt, the establishment of the Manhattan Engineer District, and the preliminary work on the design and construction of the first atomic pile at Chicago. The section ends with an hour-by-hour description of the experiment culminating in the achievement of the first self-sustaining nuclear reaction on December 2, 1942. The second section consists of Fermi's own story of the first atomic chain reaction, written in observance of the tenth anniversary of the event. The third section is an account by Fermi's wife of a Party to celebrate the success of the experiment. Nor narrative reveals the great secrecy surrounding the work of Fermi's team. The booklet has numerous photographs of the scientists involved in the Project, sketches of the first atomic pile and a Photograph of a graph indicating the neutron intensity during various stages of the operation of the atomic pile.
