Alexander Mellis, Inspector of Weights amd Measures City Rental —The estimated rental of heritage, within the bura;h and freedom of the City, taxed for certain purposes by the Board of Taxers, it £136,707 ; thus showing an increase was, in 1821, £74,869 , in 1852, was of nearly double. Corporation Funds.—The accounts of the Corporation for the year 10s and the ex- ending 15th Oct., 1854, show a total revenue of £22,771 ; penditure, £21,112 7s. Id., leaving a surplus of £1659 8s. lid. The amount Cr., 14s. lid. of Treasury stock, as at the last noted date, was— £237,608 ; balance, £63,705 16s. 8d. — this balance being, how- Dr., £173,902 18s. 3d. ; ever, subject to the surplus expenditure, on the Kirk charge, which amounts to between £1000 and £1100 yearly. Population.— By the census of 1851, the population of Aberdeen amounted to 71,973;—made up of the following items, viz. :— East Parish, ; West, 11,227 North, 6,167 5,403 (inclusive of 221 military in barracks) ; South, 4,548; Greyfriars, 6,654; St. Clements, 7,466-total of six city parishes, 41,465: Old Machar parish (part of), 30,503; Banchory-Deveni. k are (part of), 5—gross total as before, 71,973, of which number, 31,746 males, and 40,227 females. The returns state the number of inhabited houses at 5,839, with 17,356 separate occupiers. The population of the city and county, in the same year, was 214,658.
