  • Sparrow Records Discography
Sparrow Discography by Mike Callahan, David Edwards & Patrice Eyries © 2018 by Mike Callahan Sparrow Records Discography Sparrow is a Contemporary Christian label founded in 1976 by Billy Ray Hearn. Hearn was the A&R Director for Word Records’ Myrrh label, founded a few years earlier also as a Contemporary Christian label. Sparrow also released records under their Birdwing subsidiary. Hearn’s Sparrow label was in competition with Hearn’s old boss, Word Records, and was quite successful. Even today, Sparrow is among the top Christian labels. Hearn sold the label to EMI in 1992, and it was placed under the Capitol Christian Music Group. Sparrow signed a distribution agreement with MCA in April, 1981 to release their product in the secular market while the regular Sparrow issues were distributed to Christian stores and Christian radio stations. The arrangement with MCA lasted until October, 1986, when Sparrow switched distribution to Capitol. • Saiichi Sugiyama Band Epk 2016
SAIICHI SUGIYAMA BAND EPK (July 2016) British blues-rock guitarist Saiichi Sugiyama and his band are touring the UK in September 2016 ahead of their new album release next year. Saiichi Sugiyama Band is a group of musicians hailing from Surrey/London that harks back to the halcyon days of rock and soul, 1965-1974, brought together in 2010 by the guitarist/composer Saiichi [pronounced: “sigh-eee- chee”], who has a career spanning 25 years as a solo artist in the British blues scene. The core of the group is Rietta Austin (lead vocals), Saiichi Sugiyama (guitar/vocals/composer), Ben Reed (bass guitar) and Mune Sugiyama (producer/arranger/drums). When playing live, the group are augmented by touring musicians including Stuart Dixon (rhythm guitar), Katrin Yr (lead vocals) and Wez Johnson (drums). The former members Lizzie Hibbert (lead vocals) and Dave Munch Moore (keys) also record with the group in studio. The group has been spending the past months working on their new studio album in various recording studios, a follow up to the studio live album “the Smokehouse Sessions” from 2014. The new album will include a track entitled “Melting Away”, written by Saiichi and featuring the late bass hero Andy Fraser, ex-Free and composer of the 1970 smash single, “All Right Now.” The initial inspiration for “Melting Away” came to Saiichi while on a trip to his native Japan. To Saiichi the melody was reminiscent of Free guitarist Paul Kossoff, who died in 1976. Creating a demo when he returned home to the UK, Saiichi came up with bass parts that brought Free bassman Andy Fraser to mind.

  • Immediate Records
Immediate Records In mid-1965, Andrew Loog Oldham was best known as the Rolling Stones’ producer, but his ideas always extended beyond production. In July, he and Tony Calder came up with a brilliant idea to cut the bureaucracy out of the music business. That idea resulted in the creation of a new label, Immediate, which he announced to the world in the August 6th issues of the British trade magazines. New Musical Express had reported that the Rolling Stones might be leaving the London label in the United States. When Billboard reported that for American audiences in the August 21st issue, they added a bit of information about Immediate. Although Immediate did fairly well promoting domestic product and importing singles from small American labels, by the middle of 1966 they had still failed to make it into the American market. However, in June Allen Klein helped to negotiate an agreement with MGM where the American label would release at least two Immediate singles. This was not a satisfactory arrangement for either company and, prior to the release of the label’s first album in the USA, Immediate was in a distribution deal with CBS (Columbia Records). The CBS-distributed singles have the prefix ZS7-, where the 7 indicates a seven-inch record. Their LPs have the prefix of Z12 and, oddly, employ even numbers only. Where they existed, reel-to-reel tapes used the ZQ- prefix, four-track cartridges used the Z14- prefix, and eight-tracks used the Z18- prefix. Und was vermutlich noch erheblich wichtiger ist: von keinem Geringeren remastered and restored as from our very own Joachim Heinz Ehrig alias Eroc! Colosseum – Live At The Boston Tea Party (49:27, CD, Repertoire Records 2020) It was indeed „The Summer of ’69“ (13.08.69)!
