Papa John's Cardinal Stadium PAPA JOHN’S CARDINAL STADIUM UDAPSâ is the audio control component for the sound system at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky. UDAPS is IED’s user-defined audio processing system that’s already at work in many major arenas and stadiums throughout the world. The system was designed by Topper Sowden of Pelton Marsh Kinsella of Dallas, Texas, and installed by Acoustical Audio Designs of Jeffersonville, Indiana. PAPA JOHN’S CARDINAL STADIUM, Aerial view Already in use for one season, the 42,000-seat stadium, built for the University of Louisville Cardinal football team, is the newest facility of its kind in Louisville. The UDAPS at the stadium provides programmable quality sound with these, and many more, features: • User-programmable delay on every input and output • Nine-band parametric EQ on every input and output, with compression • 4 to 1 mix on every output • Customized software with a graphical interface The stadium’s speakers consist of a large cluster over the scoreboard at its south-end and a row of nine delayed speakers over the press box. The UDAPS software interface displays these speaker arrays in two sections on the PC screen so users can configure each set of speakers differently to account for delay, EQ, and other audio factors. IED has already established strong U of L Cardinal connections with the UDAPS installation at Freedom Hall, the coliseum at the Kentucky Fair and Exhibition Center, where the university’s basketball team plays. “We’ve got an unbeatable partnership with the university,” says IED marketing manager Gerry Barclay. “And our unbeatable system will score big with the fans.” MAIN CONTROL SCREEN.

CEC Notice THE AUDITORIUM-AMPITHEatER BICYCLE TRACK BY CARSON TORPEY While browsing at an auction house I came across a book “Old Louisville: The Victorian Era” by Samuel W. Thomas and William Morgan, perhaps you already have a copy of this book in your library. I flipped through the pages and found several photos of cyclists, my main focus is the bicycling history of Louisville, and then I saw a photo the Fireworks Ampitheater, part of the Auditorium, which was located at the southwest corner of Fourth and Hill Streets. So, why would a photo of the Fireworks Ampitheater ex- cite someone interested in bicycles? Let me tell you. The photo certainly shows the amphitheater but the focus of the photo is a “bicycle racing track” and not just any track but the first electric lit bicycle track in the United States. Look carefully at the white banked oval around the lake and the lights on poles surrounding the track. The Louisville bicy- cle riders were having the 1892 Kentucky Division of the League of Ameri- can Wheelmen meet in this city but the city lacked a track on which to hold the races. Daniel Quilp, of the Auditorium, offered to build the track if the cyclists would sell subscriptions at $3.00 each, which would allow the holder a key to the track where he could train anytime the amphitheater was empty.
