This season has been easily watchable and its return to form means continuous 7 Precious laughs. 8 Where the Wild Things Are 30 Rock 9 500 Days of Summer 3 Let’s get real here: “The Office” isn’t living up to its legacy. So if you find yourself bored or worn out after Mi- 10 Zombieland chael Scott ruins more peoples’ lives, leave your TV on and try watching “30 Rock.” The jokes are quicker, the setting is not a lame paper company, and Tina Fey arguing with Alec Baldwin can never put you to sleep. Be s t Fi l m s o f 2009 4 It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia The year 2009 didn’t quite bless us with 500 days of summer, but Upland’s recent I claimed this show to be the “Seinfeld” of our generation. It’s essentially a show about nothing, just four friends transformation into a geothermal meat locker reminds us that summer is next to (and, for some reason, Danny DeVito) who run a bar and deal with life in Philadelphia. But these people are com- heaven, and that movies are a great diversion from traversing the glacial landscape of plete idiots. Watching them exploit the mortgage crisis or fail at giving a simple intervention is hilarious every Taylor’s campus. I can’t say that this list is perfect, because somehow “ time. 2” didn’t make the cut (copy editor revisions ...), but at the very least, maybe this can serve as your 2009 Christmas DVD wish list. Cheers. 5 Community “Community” should be easy for us to watch. There’s nothing better than watching misfits stumble their way Colby Spear and Jamison MacKillop through college. And with an array of no-name actors teaming up with Chevy Chase, it’s a fresh show with decent writing and a lot of heart.

6 Honorable Mention – Scrubs [Med School] If you quit “Scrubs” any time over the last three to five years, it’s time to come back. Season nine is re-inventing the series, bringing in a few new actors and some much-needed writing improvements.

Let’s establish one thing: Tunnel Snakes Rule!

That being said, this year’s music scene has proven to be both dynamic and cap- tivating.

Psychedelic indie favorites The Flaming Lips and art-rock demigods the Yeah Yeah Yeahs added to their impressive discographies with excellent releas- es that live up to the bands’ lofty reputations.

Experimental groups Grizzly Bear and the Dirty Projectors released two of the most innovative and complex of the year, establishing themselves as tal- ented pioneers charting new musical territories.

Defined by a distinct and lo-fi sound, The Antler’s breakthrough album, “Hos- pice,” is an emotional outlook on the beauty of life and pain of death. The beauty of these dark lyrics accompanied by ghostly falsettos cannot be described in mere words, they must be heard.

Phoenix’s release transcends all musical prejudices; with its playful attitude and melodious sound, it’s an extremely catchy album that can be enjoyed by all.

Mos Def’s album, “The Ecstatic,” is a throwback to old school hip-hop and high- lights the MC’s affinity for lyricism and rhythm.
