Z Speed is directly proportional to Traffic Volume. Higher the speed, more traffic volume can move upto saturation. Z The observed speed indicates that the vehicles are well within the speed limits and hence the road safety is ensured particularly in the case of highways. Source: IRC:106-1990, page no-10 As per IRC:106-1990, Guidelines for Capacity of Urban Roads in Plain Areas

Source: IRC:106-1990, page no-11 During Construction It is proposed that the construction vehicles will visit the site, 8 in numbers on an average per day. V/C during construction (lorries) = 0.13 & 0.42. The present level of service will remain “A & C” along Mannuthi Oorakom Road and Thrissur Mannamangalam Road respectively. The vehicles carrying construction materials are proposed to come to the site during off peak hours. Number of lorries planned to the site (off peak hours). Day time –8 no’s. Night time –Nil. V/C indicates that there is no significant change & hence performance level also. Vehicles carrying construction materials will be well covered to prevent any spillage. Vehicles hired for construction material will be in good condition and conforms to noise and air emission standards. Tiers etc… are washed within the site. Vehicles will operate only during non peak hours. ZSince the activity is mixed use development , the ingress & egress of vehicles will move from & to the project between 8:00am to 11:00 am as egress & 6:00pm to 9:00 pm as ingress and vice versa.

ZTotal traffic generated from this project = 1294 PCU’s.

ZTherefore, the hourly volume in PCU’s will be 1294/3 = 431 PCU’s/hr.

Z The vehicles generated from the project site will first exit to the Mannuthi

Oorakom Road.

i.e. 100%X431 = 431 PCU’s/hr will first exit to the Mannuthi Oorakom Road. 5 Out of (431 PCU’s/hr), 30% of the Traffic will moves along Mannuthi Oorakom Road towards Ollur and 70 % of the Traffic will moves towards Thrissur Mannamangalam Road / Madakkathara. Contd.,

i.e., 0.30 x 431 = 129 PCU’s/hr moves along Mannuthi Oorakom Road towards Ollur. 0.70 x 431 = 302 PCU’s/hr moves along Mannuthi Oorakom Road towards Thrissur Mannamangalam Road / Madakkathara. Z Out of (302 PCU’s/hr), 50% of the Traffic will moves along Thrissur Mannamangalam Road towards Thrissur and 20 % of the Traffic will moves towards Mannamangalam. i.e., 0.75 x 302 = 227 PCU’s/hr moves along Thrissur Mannamangalam Road towards Thrissur. 0.25 x 302 = 75 PCU’s/hr moves along Thrissur Mannamangalam Road towards Mannamangalam.

Z Pedestrians are considered as most Vulnerable Road Users (VRU) as the accidents are increasing on pedestrians. Hence pedestrians safety must be considered as top priority in traffic engineering.

Z As per IRC, a minimum of 1.8 m wide neatly paved, well illuminated and leveled footpath must be made available for pedestrians.

Z Presently in Mannuthi Oorakom Road & Thrissur Mannamangalam Road there is no footpath for pedestrian flow, provide a minimum of 2 m footpath.

Z The capacity of the footpath for 2 m width will be 2520 (C grade) pedestrians / hr. Recommended Pedestrian Side walk capacity and level of service (IRC 103-2012)

ZTo establish smooth entry & exit of vehicles, bell mouth shape geometry is provided at the gates. This ensures smooth transition for merging of vehicles.

Z Amber blinker lights will be used at the gate to caution vehicles which are moving out. Sign boards will also to be installed to this effect.

Z Adequate sign & guide posts for traffic as per IRC (Indian Roads Congress) or ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers USA) to be installed along

Mannuthi Oorakom Road & Thrissur Mannamangalam Road.

ZAll precautionary measures are ensured for the safety of construction laborers while working at the site.
