Take A SD along for vacation reading and during your R&R give a little thought to the topics raised by this month's authors. Our cover story, with quotes from Jerry Haag, will give many a reader some clues about what makes a caller successful and what keeps him active over the years. Many areas overseas are in the processes of organization through which states and localities have already progressed. Bernard Linley tells the status of dancing In Italy. Working together and finding areas of mutual agreement are Important to standardizing our dancing so that visitors and new residents find similarities wherever they go. In February 1979, a survey dealing with round dance cues was published; this month Fred and Kay Haury discuss the results. "We've always done it this way," is one of those phrases that may spell out terminal disease in any organization. Can we learn "new tricks"? Read Al Eblen's article on page 23. Instead of the usual humorous center spread, these two pages this month list the current Callerlab programs. Familiarize yourself with the lists and where your dancing ability lies. Only a few changes were made in 1979 but the lists are slightly different from last year's. Dave Simons of New York City created the caller for "Sketchpad Commentary" this month. Dave is a professional cartoonist and specializes in comic book art.

The rain failed to dampen the spirits of nearly 200 members and guests as Gingham and Swing'em hosted their 25th Silver Anniversary last April. Dancers came from all over Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania; one came from Missouri. The hall was elegantly decorated with silver and black silhouettes of dancing couples, bells, silver bows and ferns. Tables were coverd with silver and featured candle-floral centerpieces with silver glitter numbers on black place cards. The refreshment table was covered with pink net and the centerpiece was a beautiful three-tier anniversary cake with flowing fountain, baked and decorated by club president Belva Lauvray. Serving were Laura Ingram, Opal Stipes, Belva Lauvray, Maxine Todd, Pat Lanning and Joyce Davis. Included in refreshment planning were Mr. and Mrs. Max Snyder. Club President Allen Lauvray introduced Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Harrold, the only charter members. Mr. Harrold introduced Ed and Mary Michl of Kent, the former club caller and organizer. (Ed was the originator of star thru.) Al Arron presented the Harrolds and Michls with floral banquets from the club. Honorary members Mr. and Mrs. Don Owens and Mrs. Laura Ingram were recognized. Three hours of fun passed quickly, with Sonny Bess calling and rounds cued by Emma Lou Risley. At the close of the dance, past-president Cecil Davis said, "Two years in planning and it finally came off," and so beautifully and gratifyingly!

Confusion about with whom to form star can be avoided if actives give hands to couple below, and inactives to couple above, or extend hands in direction of progression. Everyone should begin with right foot. It is recommended that everyone wear pajamas for optimal effect.
