105Th Annual Madonna Del Soccorso-Fisherman's Feast VOL. 119 - NO. 34 BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, AUGUST 21, 2015 $.35 A COPY 105th Annual Madonna del Soccorso-Fisherman’s Feast by Jeanne Brady The Fisherman’s Feast is the North End’s oldest con- tinuously running Italian festival and one of the larg- est with four days of festivi- ties on North, Lewis and Fleet Streets. The tradition goes back to the 16th cen- tury in Sciacca, Sicily brought to Boston in 1910 based on the devotion of the fishermen to the Madonna del Soccorso (Our Lady of Help). Organizers and most members are the descen- dants of the original Sicilian immigrants. Although this is my second year living in the North End, I experienced my first open- ing day procession of the Fisherman’s Feast on Thursday, August 13th. It was the 105th Fisher- man’s Feast, featuring the Grand Procession of the Madonna del Soccorso di Sciacca through the streets of Boston’s North End on Sunday, August 15, 2015. But I had been encouraged to go see the ceremony at Members of the Madonna del Soccorso Society. Design and Production of a UM Photo Album by Daniel Kennedy David Johnson A thesis submitted to the faculty of The University of Mississippi in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. Oxford May 2018 Approved by ___________________________________ Advisor: Dr. Jack McClurg ___________________________________ Reader: Dr. Matt O’Keefe ___________________________________ Reader: Dr. Jeremy Griffin Acknowledgements The authors would like to thank all the CME faculty and staff that made this project possible. Without their commitment to the students and the program, projects like this one would never make if off the ground. The authors would like to extend special thanks to Richard Hairston who served as a technical advisor for the project. Special thanks also the CME professors Dr. Vaughn, Dr. McClurg, and Ms. Watanabe. Their guidance was invaluable when the team found itself deep in the weeds. Lastly the authors would like to thank their amazing team that made this idea come to life. Their hard work made this endeavor successful. ii Abstract The following project attempted to design and manufacture a wooden photo album. The final product needed to fully satisfy customer demands as well as turn a profit. The development proceeded in two phases. The design phase sought to take the product from ideation to a fully viable final design for manufacturing. The manufacturing phase sought to create a production process that would both meet customer demands in an efficient and waste-free way. This would be accomplished by implementing principles of Project Management, Toyota Production System, and LEAN. The final product was successfully designed and produced to be a high-end oak photo album with leather and brass accenting.
