Week of Sun., September 1–7, 2019 www.lakecityreporter.com Section C Baya Urgent Care now a VA provider By TONY BRITT [email protected]

Area veterans who’ve grown impatient waiting for health care services have a new local option. Baya Urgent Care became a VA authorized urgent-care provider earlier this summer under the new federal Mission Act, which became law in June. The Mission Act allows network urgent-care and retail clinics to provide care to veterans without a prior autho- rization. The goal of the Mission Act was to provide veterans with greater choice and access to time- ly, high-quality care within the Veterans Administration’s com- munity care network. “Now we have the component to be able to service veterans, and it doesn’t cost them anything to come in and actually see us,” said Todd Denmark, Baya Urgent Care marketing director. Laura Caley, Baya Urgent Care administrator, said a few years ago there were several news reports about veterans being unable to access health care in the VA sys- tem in a timely manner, and the Mission Act granted veterans access to community care.
