Our London location provides us with immense opportunities for engaging with partners within the capital in a broad range of cultural activities. This Strategy both gives a flavour of the wonderful range of activity we already undertake and also sets an ambitious programme for the future. Our role as a major research-led university with a long and distinguished history of learning and teaching provide a splendid background against which cultural and artistic engagement can thrive across a broad spectrum. We are particularly proud of our performance and other facilities suitable for a broad range of events. The restoration of the People's Palace (including the 800-seat Great Hall) will be completed in May 2012 and this listed complex sits alongside the Octagon Library, also restored to its former splendour in 2006. -

A Broad Rental Market Area is an area ‘within which a person could reasonably be expected to live having regard to facilities and services for the purposes of health, education, recreation, personal banking and shopping, taking account of the distance of travel, by public and private transport, to and from those facilities and services.’ A BRMA must contain ‘residential premises of a variety of types, including such premises held on a variety of tenures’, plus ‘sufficient privately rented residential premises, to ensure that, in the rent officer’s opinion, the LHA for the area is representative of the rents that a landlord might reasonably be expected to obtain in that area’. [Legislation - Rent Officers (Housing Benefit Functions) Amendment (No.2) Order 2008] OUTER EAST LONDON Broad Rental Market Area (BRMA) implemented on 1st October 2009 Map of the BRMA Overview of the BRMA The above map shows Stratford, Walthamstow, Leyton, West Ham, East Ham and their surroundings within a boundary marked in red. Predominantly residential, the BRMA measures approximately nine miles from north to south and about four miles from east to west. As Stratford will host the Olympic Games in 2012, investment is currently underway to bring commercial, employment and transport improvements to the area. Docklands is located further south and contains City Airport and the Excel Centre. Docklands is a business district of significance and of importance for the country as a whole. This BRMA is situated in Transport for London Zone 3. Public transport is plentiful with four underground lines connecting in all directions, supplemented by an overground rail system connecting Walthamstow to Stratford and then eastwards towards Leytonstone. -

‘The Cause of Bibliomania’ Fine Editions from the Library of Stephen Keynes OBE FLS Type & Forme Twenties No. 2 type & forme twenties no. 2 Introduction This second catalogue in the series ‘Type & Forme Twenties’ is dedicated to fine, bibliophile publications from the library of Stephen Keynes OBE, FLS (1927-2017), the youngest son of the distinguished surgeon, bibliographer, and bibliophile Sir Geoffrey Keynes (1887-1982). Stephen Keynes became a member of the Roxburghe Club in 1978, following his father (elected in 1943), and preceding his brother Quentin Keynes (1987) and nephew Simon Keynes (2004), whose obituary of Stephen is reprinted from The Book Collector in an abridged and revised form at the end of this catalogue. STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE 9th June 2021 Report of the Corporate Director of Place Classification: Unrestricted Application for Planning Permission Reference PA/19/02534 Site Asda – Crossharbour District Centre, 151 East Ferry Road, London, E14 3BT Ward Blackwall and Cubitt Town Proposal A hybrid planning application (part detailed, part outline) for the demolition of existing buildings and the comprehensive, mixed-use, re- development of the site, comprising a maximum of 218,991sqm (GEA) of floorspace. Full details are submitted for 526 residential units (Class C3), flexible commercial floorspace, including a new foodstore (17,087sqm GIA - A1-A4/B1), a primary school (D1), community uses (D1), public bus parking and a site wide basement, with associated uses as part of the development including car parking (up to 410 spaces), cycle parking, and an energy centre. Building heights would range between a maximum of 17.4m AOD (3 storeys above ground level) and 60m AOD (15 storeys above ground level). Creation of new vehicular and pedestrian access and public realm works, including all ground floor hard and soft landscaping and other works incidental to the proposals, including a programme of interim works (which include a temporary multi-storey car park with 349 car parking spaces and a temporary access lobby to the retail foodstore). Outline permission (with layout, scale, appearance and landscaping at upper levels being reserved) is sought for up to 111,137sqm GEA above podium level, comprising of between 1217 and 1446 residential units (C3), with associated private and communal podium amenity and landscaping, within four buildings with maximum heights ranging between up to 45.850m (AOD)/12 storeys and up to 115.50m (AOD)/32 storeys. -

The building is loved by local people, who have campaigned relentlessly and in large numbers for about 15 years for it to be restored as an entertainment venue. In an innovative partnership with Soho Theatre, the EMD cinema will be transformed into a 950-seat theatre, bar and restaurant, community space, and more. The £25m investment into the venue’s revival is part of the Council’s London Borough of Culture legacy commitment to place culture at the heart of its communities. Soho Theatre’s wide-ranging programme will be announced towards the end of 2021. It is set to feature some of the biggest names in UK and international comedy as well as an annual pantomime and special events (from music to screenings and performance) alongside dedicated community, education and schools’ programmes. The venue will open in spring 2022 and is expected to become a magnet for visitors wanting to experience world-class culture in the borough, helping to boost the local evening and night-time economy and support our existing businesses. -

My fellow Governors and I pay tribute to the leadership and support shown by Mr Rupert Hambro, Chairman of the Board of Governors from 1998 to 2005. There were many significant achievements during this period, in particular the refurbishment of galleries at London Wall, the first stage of the major redevelopment of the London Wall site, the opening of the Museum in Docklands and the establishment and opening of the London Archaeological Archive and Research Centre at Mortimer Wheeler House.The first stage of the London Wall site redevelopment included a new entrance, foyer and the Linbury gallery, substantially funded by the Linbury Trust.The Museum is grateful to Lord Sainsbury for his continuing support.There were also some spectacular acquisitions such as the Henry Nelson O’Neil’s paintings purchased with the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Introduction National Art Collections Fund and the V&A Purchase Fund.
