Landolf déposa sa requête ; Angilberge voulut intervenir pour s’y opposer mais Louis II la fit taire ; à son tour pleurant, il fit appeler tous ses proceres (un groupe plus large que ceux qui entouraient le couple impérial ?) pour organiser une expédition. Puis il fit donner du vin à l’évêque par son échanson et lui fit don de la coupe d’or dans laquelle il avait bu. Quelque temps plus tard, arrivé avec son armée en Campanie, Louis II réunit à nouveau autour de lui l’ensemble de ses proceres pour tenir conseil et arrêter avec eux, unanimiter , un plan de bataille.
