Mina and Dick Johansson, your hosts, run a really friendly and warming lodge, with a restaurant serving excellent meals using local ingredients. Abisko Mountain Lodge offers genuine accommodation in a traditional mountain hotel setting. The service is personal and the cuisine is centred on local ingredients and is of an exceptional standard! The 16 twin rooms in the low red ‘Swedish style house’ are all en-suite. Although basic in the Scandinavian style they are warm and cosy. There are no televisions in the rooms as time is spent meeting fellow travelers around the bar or in the relaxing lounge area. There are 4 deluxe rooms in a separate Annexe which come highly recommended and are for the sole use of Weekend a la Carte’s clients. This evening enjoy the fantastic cuisine at Mountain Lodge as you partake in their traditional Lappish menu which includes Reindeer, Arctic Char and Cloudberries – 3 of the unique ingredients to the area. The only thing that can interrupt your evening is the Aurora Call. Abisko Mountain Lodge is in a fantastic location for northern lights viewing so if they are out you may be tempted to step out the door and gaze skywards! You can decide to explore Abisko National Park which is sandwiched between picturesque mountains and Lake Tornetrask one of Sweden’s largest lakes which freezes during winter. The team at Abisko Mountain Lodge will provide information on trails you can explore. Alternatively from mid February onwards you can take the chairlift up Mt. Nujola to view the spectacular landscapes from 300 meters up! For those of you wishing to add in more excitement we offer a range of added optional extras. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner A la Carte Optional Extras Snowmobiling Options in Abisko National Park Abisko National Park surrounds Abisko Mountain Lodge so you don’t have to go far to get some awe inspiring views of the frozen lake and mountains. Snowmobiling is a great way of getting deeper into Abisko National Park to appreciate the expanse and the beauty of the surrounding area. The wonderful Tornetrask glacial formation is a beacon rising out of the white desert! Your trip includes a 2 hour shared snowmobile experience. We offer more options: 2 Hour single person per snowmobile +£45 4 Hour Snowmobile Experience (shared) +£45 per person 4 Hour Snowmobile Experience (single) +£95 per person Northern Lights Wilderness Photography Evening page 3/14 Spend the evening with one of the “Lights Over Lapland” photographers for an opportunity to see and photograph the aurora borealis in the wilderness of Abisko National Park. Abisko sits in a low precipitation zone and thus has many more clear nights than almost anywehere else in the region which is why the Aurora are seen so frequently from here. There is virtually no light pollution either. This tour which is used extensively by our guests at Abisko Mountain Lodge involves a short snowmobile ride in a sled to the wilderness Yurt, your base for the evening. You will be provided with a high quality camera & lens and teach you the skills that you will need to find and photograph the magical aurora Borealis. Even if you have never used a camera before you have an extremely high chance of going home with some beautiful aurora photographs and memories that will last a lifetime! Price Per Person: £145 Includes: Camera, tripod, warm drinks, guiding services, 3-4 hours searching for and photographing the aurora in Abisko National Park. You need to take SD card with you. Ice Climbing on Frozen Waterfall The Abisko Canyon is in the National Park, close to the lodge and is formed by the frozen river entering Lake Tornetrask. Have fun spending a couple of hours under expert guidance ice climbing the frozen waterfall.The sense of achievement is exhilarating and we have both 17 and 70 year olds do it over the years! Price: £95 per person:- half day with Guiding and equipment provided Ice Fishing on Lake Tornetrask Lake Tornetrask is a short walk away from Abisko Mountain Lodge and besides being a beautiful setting is an excellent place to try your luck at Ice Fishing. Away from it all surrounded by mountains and beautiful vista nothing could be better! The Lake has both Arctic Char, Grayling and Trout but in Winter you are most likely to catch Char – the King of Arctic Fish! Perhaps the chefs back at the hotel can cook you up a feast with your catch! Price Per Person: £85 – half day including guide and equipment page 4/14 DAY 3 Train Trip to Norwegian Fjords or Select an Optional Experience. Enjoy breakfast before taking the train from the station near the Lodge and follow the famous iron ore railroad with beautiful mountain vistas, frozen waterfalls and stunning Arctic valleys. Once you cross into Norway enjoy the magnificent views and try to take photos before continuing up and over Björnfjell – a stunning Norwegian mountain dotted with small grass roofed cottages. Meander down the mountain, where small birch trees give way to large evergreens and dramatic mountains fall steeply down into the Norwegian Fjord. Once in Narvik you will have around 3 hours to explore town before the return trip. You have the opportunity to ascend to the observation deck of the Scandic Hotel, take the cable car for views over the fjords, do some souvenir shopping or visit the newly built Peace Museum. This state of the art facility offers a glimpse of what life looked like in these majestic Fjords during the Second World War Nazi occupation. (please note this train trip can be cancelled at short notice if the weather prevents trains passing the high plateau between Sweden and Norway) Alternatively chose between our selection of daytime activities which range from the more relaxed to the more adventurous. For example you could test yourself on an ice climbing introduction in the Abisko Canyon on a frozen waterfall or simply sit on a sleigh with a musher driving you through some pristine wilderness. Lunch at the lodge is included. This evening you have a last chance to sample the fine cuisine at the lodge or venture out on a northern lights hunt if you wish.
