Targa Newfoundland Announces Honourary Chairman (ST. JOHN’S, NL) February 17, 2020 - Targa Newfoundland Motorsports Club Inc. and Newfoundland International Motorsports Limited, the organizer and owner of the annual Targa Newfoundland and Bambina Newfoundland, are proud to announce Premier Roger Grimes as the Honourary Chairman of this year’s events. Mr. Grimes, hailing from Grand Falls-Windsor, served as the eighth Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador from 2001 to 2003 and represented the Central Newfoundland electoral district of Exploits beginning in 1989 until his retirement from provincial politics in 2005. In his role as Chairman, Mr. Grimes will represent Targa Newfoundland and appear at select events. Most notably, hosting the Opening Ceremonies and Official Start for the Targa Newfoundland and Bambina events on September 13, as well as the concluding Awards Gala on September 19. “Having been a friend and supporter of Targa Newfoundland since its beginnings in 2002, I am pleased to accept the role of Honourary Chairman,” commented Grimes. “I look forward to building on Targa’s illustrious past and being a part of its bright future.” Mr. Grimes’ appointment is effectively immediately and will carry into Targa Newfoundland’s events scheduled for upcoming years. Modelled on the very successful Targa Tasmania rally in Australia, Targa Newfoundland has drawn eager competitors, crews, volunteer, and fans from as far away as Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Belgium, the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, the United Kingdom, the United States, as well as from across Canada to a competition unlike any in North America.

The 2020 competitions will start in St. John’s on September 12 and concludes back in the capital on September 18.
