Julian Blake Gordon Spring 2014 MEDEA OF GAZA GORDON !1 GORDON !2 Research Summary A snapshot of Medea of Gaza as of March 7, 2014 ! Since the Summer of 2013, I’ve been working on a currently untitled play inspired by the Diane Arnson Svarlien translation of Euripides’ Medea. The origin of the idea was my Theater and Culture class with Nancy Hoffman, taken in the Spring of 2013. For our midterm, we were assigned to pick a play we had read and set it in a new location. It was the morning of my 21st birthday, a Friday, and the day I was heading home for Spring Break. My birthday falls on a Saturday this year, but tomorrow marks the anniversary, I’d say. I had to catch a train around 7:30am. The only midterm I hadn’t completed was the aforementioned Theater and Culture assignment. -

Opposing Viewpoints: a Study on Female Representation by Women in Popular Indian Cinema
INTERNATIONALJOURNALOF MULTIDISCIPLINARYEDUCATIONALRESEARCH ISSN:2277-7881; IMPACT FACTOR :6.514(2020); IC VALUE:5.16; ISI VALUE:2.286 Peer Reviewed and Refereed Journal: VOLUME:10, ISSUE:2(5), February:2021 Online Copy Available: www.ijmer.in OPPOSING VIEWPOINTS: A STUDY ON FEMALE REPRESENTATION BY WOMEN IN POPULAR INDIAN CINEMA Mr. Habin. H Ph. D Research Scholar in English T. K. M College of Arts and Science,University of Kerala Karikode, Kollam Abstract Popular Indian film industry has been dominated by men in all its fields. Even though women are involved in all roles including as film producers, film critics, actresses, directors etc., generally, they have been underrepresented and used for the purpose of generating erotic pleasure. This underrepresentation mainly happens in films which are directed by men. Recently, the number of women film makers has been increasing. Majority of films which are directed by women represent women true to their self, projects their problems and works for their betterment. Thus, by analysing certain Indian popular films, the present research paper projects the main notions that such movies try to present and how far those movies are different from those movies which are produced and directed by men. Keywords: Representation, Women, Popular Movies. Introduction In the past, female representations were underrepresented and subjected to the concept of male gaze. Even though there are ‘super woman’ characters in popular films, women are still sexualised. The film sector visages a constant difficulty to trace a sufficient aspect to balance both the sexualisation and betterment of sturdy women. Although representations of women characters have been improved in recent years, the rapid change in attitude happened in the popular Indian industry with the arrival of women directors and script writers. -

1. Denmark named world’s best country for women Denmark is the best country in the world for women to live in, according to a survey conducted by American media company US News and World Report. The Best Countries for Women, including Sweden, Canada, the Netherlands and Australia, scored highest on a compilation of five country attributes: cares about human rights, gender equality, income equality, safe and progressive. Algeria and Pakistan – two countries criticized by human rights groups for their treatment of women – are perceived to be the worst countries for females. Denmark also emerged as the second best country to raise children. 2. 2015 declared the hottest year on record It’s official: 2015 was the hottest year on record. Global data show that a powerful system, marked by warmed waters in the tropical Pacific Ocean, helped to drive atmospheric temperatures well past 2014’s record highs. Some researchers suggest that broader Pacific trends could spell even more dramatic temperature increases in years to come. Released on 20 January, the global temperature data come from three independent records maintained by NASA, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the UK Met Office. All three data sets document unprecedented high temperatures in 2015, pushing the global average to at least 1 ºC above pre-industrial levels. Although El Niño boosted temperatures late in the year, US government scientists say that the steady increase in atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases continues to drive overall warming. 3. Mauritius offers biofarming technology to India Eyeing greater economic cooperation with India, Mauritius offered transfer of biofarming technology to the country along with enhanced cooperation in the healthcare sector. -
