The cleaning and digging activ- ities of the frogs included removal of small to larger items, ranging from sand and leaves to larger stones. In all nest types eggs and tadpoles of C. goliath were detected. All nest types were used for egg deposition several times, and could comprise up to three distinct cohorts of tadpoles. -

Zetela is a genus of marine gastropods belonging to the family Solariellidae (Vetigastropoda, Trochoidea). The species Zetela alphonsi Vilvens, 2002 was origi- nally described using classical conchological characters from samples obtained from deep water off Chiloé, Chile, but no other features were recorded in the original description. In the present paper, taxonomically relevant characters such as the operculum, radula, and soft part anatomy are illustrated and described for the first time from a specimen of Zetela alphonsi from a new locality, a methane seep area off the coast of central Chile. We find that many features differ substantially from other members of the genus, including several which deviate from characters that are diagnostic for Zetela. Zetela alphonsi also lacks retinal screening pigment, giving the appearance of eyelessness from gross examination. Although pigmenta- tion loss has been reported in other deep sea genera, this feature has not been re- ported in any other members of Zetela. We reconstructed a tomographic model of the eye and eyestalk, and demonstrate that a vestigial eye is still present but exter- nally invisible due to the loss of pigmentation. Based on these new morphological characters, particularly observations of the radula, we suggest that the current placement of this species in the genus Zetela should be reconsidered. -

Kupe, a mountain at the southern edge of the Cameroonian Highlands. This work resulted in the sampling of 48 species, including 38 amphibian and 10 reptile species. By combining our data with prior survey results from higher elevation zones, we produce a checklist of 108 species for the greater Mt. Kupe region including 72 frog species, 21 lizard species, and 15 species of snakes. Our work adds 30 species of frogs at lower elevations, many of which are associated with breeding in pools or ponds that are absent from the slopes of Mt. Kupe. We provide taxonomic accounts, including museum specimen data and associated molecular data, for all species encountered. -

Assignment of species to genera has proved difficult in the past, and the type genus has sometimes acted as a ‘wastebasket’ for species that cannot easily be referred to another genus. In the light of a new systematic framework provided by two recent publications presenting the first molecular phylogenetic data for the group, we reassess the shell characters that are most useful for delimiting genera. -
Ikpan Wetland Rainforest: an Area of High Biodiversity Importance in South-Eastern Nigeria

ENIANG1 & Luca LUISELLI2 RÉSUMÉ Un inventaire détaillé des mammifères, reptiles et amphlbiens a été conduit dans les zones humides et de forêt de terre ferme du bloc forestier d'Ikpan (Cross River State, sud-est du Nigéria) durant la période 1998-2001. Les prospections ont montré que l'Ikpan Forest, bien que formellement non protégée tant au niveau régional qu'au plan national, héberge une remarquable biodiversité qui inclut de nombreux vertébrés de grand intérêt écologique et biogéographlque et qui sont importants en termes de conservation. Parmi les mammifères, les taxons les plus importants sont les primates ( 11 espèces différentes dont Mandrillus leucophaeus, Pan troglodytes, Procolobius badius preussi), les éléphants et les buffles de forêt et beaucoup d'ongulés. Des lamantins et des panthères sont vraisemblablement aussi présents. Parmi les reptiles, Osteolaemus tetraspis, Kinixys spp., Va ranus niloticus omatus, Python sebae, et des caméléons sont particulièrement importants du point de vue de la conservation. De plus, cette forêt abrite une remarquable diversité d'espèces de serpents (27) et d'amphibiens (27), dont beaucoup sont de bons indicateurs de qualité écologique forestière et certaines n'avaient fait l'objet jusqu'ici que de rares mentions au Nigéria (e.g. les anoures Bufo superciliaris et Conraua crassipes). La zone montre de grandes potentialités en matière de conservation et de développement durable (écotourisme) mais doit être soigneusement gérée dans les toutes prochaines années pour éviter les effets négatifs de l'exploitation forestière, de la chasse locale, de l'agriculture et de la pêche à la dynamite. -
