Bishop Proto-Syncellus: Bishop Proto-Syncellus will have the full responsibility of the administration of all the schools, colleges, hospitals and other institutions of the Archeparchy. He will be also fully responsible for the financial administration of the Archeparchy. All matters concerning the consecrated men and women of the Archeparchy will also be under the supervision of the Bishop Proto-Syncellus. Bishop Syncellus: Bishop Syncellus will be fully responsible for the administration of the parishes and filial churches. He will also be responsible for the associations and apostolates of all sorts in the Archeparchy. The responsibility of the formation of minor seminaries, degree students, regents and major seminarians also will be under the responsibility of the Bishop Syncellus. On all important matters which come under the full responsibility of Bishop Proto- Syncellus and Bishop Syncellus, they will have to consult the Archbishop and obtain his concurrence. The transfer and appointments of priests will be the common responsibility of the Bishop Proto-Syncellus and Bishop Syncellus. Here also they have to take the final decision in consultation with the Archbishop and with his concurrence. The spiritual and material welfare of all priests of the Archeparchy and priests from other dioceses and religious congregations working in the Archeparchy will be under the common supervision of the Archbishop and the Auxiliary Bishops.     1 Fr. Abel Periyappuram, CMI: Creator of a Syriac Music Genre in Malayalam Joseph J. Palackal, CMI Christian Musicological Society of India Abstract: Fr. Abel Periyappuaram (1920-2001), a CMI priest, who received no formal training in music during his formative years, became a pivotal figure in Kerala's cultural history and Christian music history of India. Fr. Abel's innate musicality came alive when Cardinal Joseph Parecattil (1912-1987) commissioned him to create a Malayalam version of the funeral services and the Hudra, the book of canonical prayers in Syriac. The commission came along with a mission to retain the Syriac melodies that were already in use among the Syro Malabar Catholics. It also meant that the translated text should be viable to the original Syriac melody. Fr. Abel relied on a liberal approach in representing the source text but took extreme care to make the target text pleasantly singable. As a result, a new genre of old Syriac melodies with Malayalam text became an integral part of the Syro Malabar Catholics' religious experience. This presentation focuses on an analytical study of Fr. Abel's music leadership in enriching the cultural confluence in Kerala and reconnecting India to the source of Christianity in West Asia. A time travel to the Ernakulam of 1965. Let us travel back in time to Ernakulam, a bustling commercial town in Kerala, India, in 1965. That is where Fr. Abel rediscovered himself as a lyricist, poet, art-promoter, organizer, and administrator. Fr. Abel arrived at Ernakulam after a teaching career at St. Joseph's College, Devagiri in Calicut.

This Calendar is prepared in accordance with the decision of the Synod of the Syro-Malabar Bishops held in November 6 – 18, 1995. 2. The readings of the Sundays and other important days are given in the Calendar as per the direction of the Supplementum Mysteriorum and Ordo published by Rome in 1959 –’60. The long readings have been reduced, while the complete version of them are given in the brackets. Readings of ordinary days are selected as per the need required. 3. The division of the Liturgical Year of the Syro-Malabar Church is followed according to the Lectionary System of the East Syrian tradition. The liturgical calendar is divided into nine seasons. The spirit of each season is given in the introduction. 4. The Liturgical year is centered on the divine mysteries of salvation. These salvific events are: the birth of Jesus (Annunciation and Christmas), baptism (Epiphany), passion and death (Great Lent), resurrection and ascension (Resurrection), pentecost (Apostles and Summer), transfiguration and exaltation of the cross (Elia-Cross- Moses), and finally, the second coming of Jesus and the glorification of the Church (Dedication of the Church). 5. The feasts are divided into three categories according to their importance in the Syro-Malabar Church. The readings have been arranged accordingly.

I am very grateful to you for your visit today; it is indeed with great joy that I address my affectionate greeting to all of you who, together with Cardinal Joseph Parecattil, Archbishop of Ernakulam and President of the Pontifical Commission for the Revision of the Eastern Code of Canon Law, have come from different parts of India for this ad limina visit and for your collegial meeting. 2. In you I sense the presence here of the whole Syro-Malabar Church, this Eastern and authentically Indian Church which for centuries has been a marvel of Christian witness in fidelity to its primitive faith and to its legitimate traditions. And hence my greeting goes today to your entire Church: to the priests, to the men and women Religious, to the members of Secular institutes, to the young, to the old, to the fathers and mothers of families, to the workers, to the children and to all the faithful, especially those who are in sickness and in pain. My greeting and good wishes go also to the faithful and Pastors of the other Churches who live alongside of you in the different parts of Kerala and in the rest of India, as well as to the brethren of the Christian communities which are not yet in full communion with us.
