We are the living temples of Jesus Christ hence we should abstain from all types of sins in thoughts, words and deeds. 2 Catechetical Diary 2019-20 Catechetical Diary 2019-20 3 SYLLABUS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2019-2020 General Information The academic year is divided into two semesters. First and second semester 1. CATECHISM consist of 18 & 17 Classes respectively. The syllabus will be as follows: Catechism is education in the faith of Children, youth and adults which includes the teaching of Christian doctrine, imparted in an organic and systematic way, with a view of initiating the hearers into the fullness of Std Text Book Add. Text Bible Text Book Add. Texts Bible Christian life. It is the mission and task entrusted to the Church by the Lord, Class I 1-7 8-15 to safeguard and impart faith. Catechesis is to present the sacred doctrines of faith and morals, and make it acceptable and experiential to the faithful, Class II 1-7 8-15 especially the children. Class IIII 1-7 8-15 2. ACADEMIC YEAR Class IV 1-7 1-2 Mt. 1-4 8-15 3-4 Mt. 5-8 Sunday School academic year shall be from the Last Sunday of June to the Class V 1-7 1-2 Mt. 9-12 8-15 3-4 Mt. 13-16 last Sunday of April every year. The units shall take utmost care not to give Class VI 1-7 1-2 Mt. 17-22 8-15 3-4 Mt. 23-28 unnecessary holidays for Catechism classes. Class VII 1-7 1-2 Lk. 1-6 8-15 3-4 Lk. 7-12 3. CLASSES Class VIII 1-7 1-2 Lk. 13-18 8-15 3-4 Lk. 19-24 As far as possible the units shall conduct classes for all the sections from Class IX 1-7 1-2 Mk. 1-8 8-15 3-4 Mk. 9-16 KG to XII Standard. Lack of enough number of students and teachers may Class X 1-7 Jn. 1-10 8-15 Jn. 11-21 necessitate clubbing two classes together. In such a situation, the unit is Class XI 1-6 7-12 free to choose which texts shall be followed in the particular section. Class XII 1-6 7-12 4. CATECHETICAL ASSEMBLY Each unit shall conduct an Assembly prior to Sunday classes. The assembly will consist of an Anthem, a Pledge, a Prayer and listening to recent Church news, Bible reading, Group Activities etc. 5. DURATION Duration of catechism classes should be minimum one hour. 6. FAMILY CHATECHISM HOUR (FCH) Family is the cradle of catechesis. It is an intensive catechism hour in the families on saturdays to study catechism. It is advisable to keep same hour in a parish. 7. TEXT BOOK AND DIARY 2019 Each student shall have a copy of the text book prescribed for the respective section and the catechetical diary prepared every year. Catechetical diary is • Last Date of Registration - 28th July (Sunday). a handbook with all necessary information on Sunday School academic year. th • Date of exam - : 29 September 2019, Sunday 2.00 pm to 3.30 pm 8. EXAMINATIONS This year the registraion will be online for details visit ; There will be two semester examinations on 17th November 2019, Sunday www.catechismfaridabad.com and 29th March 2020, Sunday respectively.

Then soon from my dream I was wakened, And sad was my heart, for I knew That though my life’s day was not over, Ere long I should bid it adieu. I started in shame and in sorrow, I turned from the sin that deceives; Henceforth I must toil for the Saviour Or maybe bring nothing but leaves.     Modern Alternative Popes* Magnus Lundberg Uppsala University The Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) is arguably the most important event in modern Catholicism, and a major act on the twentieth-century religious scene at large. On several points, the conciliar fathers made changes in how the Catholic Church perceived the modern world. The language in the decrees was different from earlier councils’, and the bishops opened up for ecumenism and interreligious dialogue, seeing at least “seeds of truth” in other religious traditions. The conciliar fathers also voted in favour of liberty of religion, as meaning something more than the right to practise Catholic faith. A very concrete effect of the Council was the introduction of the New Mass Order (Novus Ordo Missae) in 1969 that replaced the traditional Roman rite, decreed by Pius V in 1570. Apart from changes in content, under normal circumstances, the new mass should be read in the vernacular, not in Latin as before. Though many Catholics welcomed the reforms of Vatican II, many did not. In the period just after the end of the Council, large numbers of priests and nuns were laicized, few new priest candidates entered the seminaries, and many laypeople did not recognize the church and the liturgy, which they had grown up with. In the post- conciliar era, there developed several traditionalist groups that criticized the reforms and in particular the introduction of the Novus Ordo. Their criticism could be more or less radical, and more or less activist. Many stayed in their parishes and attended mass there, but remained faithful to traditional forms of devotions and paid much attention to modern Marian apparitions.

    Report of Indian Mission Congress-2009 Introduction India's first ever Mission Congress, christened Prabhu Yesu Mahotsav, on the theme 'Let Your Light Shine' was held at the St. Pius X College, Goregaon, Mumbai, India from 14 th to 18 th October, 2009. The general purpose of the congress was to deepen one's faith, to acknowledge one’s right and duty towards the mission work and to create awareness of mission needs, providing opportunity to give public witness of Christian faith to experience the common bond of faith and Catholicity of the Church and to proclaim Christ to the world. The Indian Mission Congress brought together the three Catholic Individual Churches in India - Latin, Syro-Malabar and Syro-Malankara. The expected fruits of the Indian Mission Congress would bring a greater awareness on the part of every Catholic’s responsibility towards evangelization thereby providing an impetus to mission work in India and a fresh stimulus to our mission efforts 1. Participants About 1300 delegates, including 112 bishops, around 240 priests and 300 nuns representing various religious congregations and dioceses and lay leaders from 160 dioceses of India attended the Congress. There were also two participants each from all the major seminaries in the country including the rector and one representative for the seminarians. His Beatitude Mar Varkey Cardinal Vithaythil participated in the congress from 14-16 th October. Among the Syro Malabar Bishops, Their Excellencies Bishops Joseph Kunnath, Vijay Anand Nedumpuram, Thomas Thuruthimattam, Simon Stock Palathara CMI, Thomas Elavanal MCBS, Joseph Pandarasseril, Jose Porunnedom, Antony Chirayath, Paul Chittilapilly, George Alencherry and Sebastian Vadakel MST were participants of the congress, thus the total number of 12 bishops from the Syro Malabar Church.
