Strubensvalley 06:40 Sasol Garage Clearwater – Christiaan De Wet Morning Route Buses will collect students at pick-up points in the morning on the times as indicated. Students need to be ready and waiting for the bus. Drivers are instructed to keep to their schedule and to advance to the next pick- up point should students not be on time. Morning traffic is unpredictable and the bus drivers will do their utmost to keep students/parents informed should anything unforeseen happen. We ask that parents also inform the bus driver timeously when students will not make use of the bus transport on the day, or if they are running late. Afternoon Route Buses leave at 15:40 in the afternoon after all school activities have been completed. Sport and Cultural activities extending after 15:20 can unfortunately not be accommodated by the bus transport. Any student staying behind at school will be taken to our after care facility (after care rates are applicable), where parents can collect them after work. Drop-off points in the afternoon will remain the same (Home address/Estate entrance) as far as it is practically and humanly possible. No primary school student may leave the bus if not collected by a parent/guardian/ caretaker. We leave students in their care specifically with the understanding that there is supervision at home. General guidelines and rules • Bus fees are payable in advance only • No “caddy-type” trolley bags/suitcases are allowed on our buses – no exception! o It blocks the isle when students have to exit the bus (huge risk during an emergency) o It cannot be stowed away (turns into a projectile when using the emergency brake) o We only have limited seating space available and they take up a huge amount of space o It damages our buses and tear the seat covers • Students need to be buckled up at all times and no standing will be allowed • Claiming any seat for yourself or friends is prohibited • Pushing; shouting; bullying and hanging over seats will not be tolerated • Always respect the bus driver and his/her requests • Any misbehavior will be reported immediately • Keep the bus clean at all times and please do not litter • No food or fizzy drinks allowed to be consumed on the bus • Making use of the bus is a privilege …. and not a right!! Buses are co-ordinated by Birgit Serfontein and she can be contacted by cell phone on 083 443 2538, should you need to make any arrangements or have any other reasonable requests. .

  • Section 1: the Natural Environment 1.2 Theme: Water
SECTION 1: THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT 1.2 THEME: WATER Overview Water quality is a broad term used for the various chemical (phosphate and iron etc.), physical (temperature, turbidity etc.) and biological (bacteria, algae etc.) constituents of water. Water resources exposed to pollutants may contain high levels of heavy metals (copper, zinc, chromium etc.), nutrients (nitrite, phosphate, etc.) and / or the physical characteristics may change (i.e. temperature, oxygen content, conductivity etc.). Changes in water quality act as important indicators to establish the degree of impact human activities have on a catchment. Unmanaged urbanization; industrial, mining and agricultural activities can result in a deterioration of the surface and ground water quality within the catchment. Pollutants resulting from these activities accumulate in rivers, dams and underground aquifers. 1.2.1 Issue: Water Quality What are the Pressures? • Exposure to high levels of human influences i.e. mining, industrial and residential areas in Krugersdorp and Kagiso can result in pressure on the quality of surface and groundwater. • The rise in the water table, due to the increase of both surface and groundwater, into the basin of the Western Basin mining area, (historically consisting of East Chamdor mines, Durban Roodepoort Deep, Wes Wits, Harmony and Luipaardsvlei) resulted in the decanting of acid and radioactive Recycled residue from the northern dump mine water in the Tweelopie spruit. This deposited by Mogale Gold into the Weswits area is approximately 500m upstream open groove pits (August 2002) from the Krugersdorp Game Reserve. This water is heavily polluted and is currently affecting both surface and groundwater resources in the immediate vicinity.
