Day 1: UDAIPUR Udaipur Udaipur, the historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar in the former Rajputana Agency is called as the ‘City of Lakes’. Often referred to as the ‘Venice of the East’, the lake city of Udaipur is known as the centre for performing arts and crafts. The famous Lake Palace, located bang in the middle of Lake Pichola is easily one of the most beautiful sights of Udaipur. Udaipur is also home to Jaisamand Lake, the largest artificial lake in Asia. The beautiful City Palace and Sajjan Garh (Monsoon Palace) add to the architectural beauty and grandeur of the city. The city is also known for its profusion of zinc and copper mines. Day Notes Arrive in Udaipur airport/railway station You will be met by our representative and drive to the hotel Check-in to the hotel and relax In the evening visit Monsoon Palace, Ahar Museum and Shilpigram Overnight in Udaipur Included BB Visit to the below sightseeing points Monsoon Palace Situated just outside Udaipur, this 19th century palace is built on top of Bansdara Mountain. Used as a monsoon palace and hunting lodge, its builder, Maharana Sajjan Singh, originally planned to make it an astronomical centre. The plan was cancelled with Maharana Sajjan Singh's premature death. It is still an awe-inspiring sight on the Udaipur skyline and offers spectacular views of the city and the areas around. Ahar Museum Ahar Museum is in close proximity to an impressive cluster of cenotaphs of the Maharanas of Mewar. The museum has a small, but rare collection of earthen pottery. You can also browse through sculptures and archaeological finds, a few dating back to 1700 BC. A 10th century metal figure of Buddha is a special attraction here. P a g e | 3 Shilpigram Situated 7 kms west of Udaipur near Lake Fateh Sagar is the Centre's Shilpgram - the Rural Arts and Crafts Complex. Spread over 70 acres, and surrounded by the Aravallis, the Rural Arts and Crafts Complex has been conceived as a living museum to depict the lifestyles of the folk and tribal people of the west zone. Day 2: UDAIPUR Day Notes After breakfast, proceed for sightseeing of Udaipur Sightseeing of Udaipur: Udaipur City Palace, Lake Palace, Lake Pichola &Fateh Sagar Lake Return to the hotel by evening Overnight in Udaipur Included BB Visit to the below sightseeing point Udaipur City Palace The City Palace towers over the Pichola Lake. The balconies, cupolas and towers of the palace give a wonderful view of the lake and the surrounding city. This complex actually consists of four major and several minor palaces that collectively form the magnificent City Palace. The main part of the palace is now preserved as a museum displaying ancient artefacts.. Lake Palace Now a hotel, The Lake Palace was originally called Jag Niwas Palace and served as a summer palace. Built between 1743 and 1746 on the island near Jagmandir Palace in Lake Pichola, the palace, which faces east, is a wondrous sight to behold. The walls made of black and white marbles are adorned by semi-precious stones and ornamented niches. Gardens, fountains, pillared terraces and columns line its courtyards. Lake Pichola Pichola was the name of a village that was submerged and lent its name to the lake when it was expanded. The islands of Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir are housed in this lake. Along the eastern banks of the lake lies the City Palace. A boat ride in the lake around sunset offers a breathtaking view of the Lake and City Palaces. P a g e | 4 Day 3: UDAHIPUR – JAIPUR (396 km / 6 hr 20 min) Jaipur Jaipur is the capital of the Indian State of Rajasthan. It was founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber, after whom the city has been named. Jaipur is known as the Pink City of India because of the colour used exclusively in the walled city. Jaipur is rich in history and culture. The city was built on the principles of Shilpa Shastra, the science of Indian Architecture. Two big silver vessels are also a big attraction, which the king had used to carry the water from Ganges on his visit to London. P a g e | 5 Hawa Mahal Means the palace of winds, Built of red and pink sandstone, the palace forms a part of the City Palace, The name Hawa Mahal was given to the palace, as the winds blowing in the palace were freezing and creating a soothing surrounding in the palace. The place ensures the beautiful and breathtaking views of the entire city. Amber Fort The Amber Fort, situated in Amber, 11 kilometers from Jaipur, is one of the most famous forts of Rajasthan, located high on a hill. This fort blends both Hindu and Rajput elements. With its large ramparts, series of gates and cobbled paths, the fort overlooks the Maota Lake, at its forefront. Nahargarh Fort Also known as Tiger Fort, is perched high on the rugged Aravali Hills overlooking Jaipur city. The fort was built 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur, the fort was constructed as a place of retreat on the summit of the ridge above the city. The view of the city from the fort is impressive. The popular belief is that Nahar here stands for Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose spirit haunted the place and obstructed construction of the fort. Nahar's spirit was pacified by building a temple in his memory within the fort, which thus became known by his name. Jaigarh Fort The massive was built in 1726 and holds great appeal for military lovers. Flanked by towering gateways and watchtowers, it contains the world's largest cannon on wheels. The cannon have never been fired though, and neither has the fort been captured. As a result the fort has remained intact over its long life. Day 5: JAIPUR – RANTHAMBORE (195 km / 4 hr) Ranthambore Tucked away between the Aravalis and the Vindhyan hill systems in the Sawai Madhopur district of eastern Rajasthan, Ranthambhore National Park (282 sq km) is a part of the much larger Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve (1334 sq km). The reserve is home to over 40 species of mammals, 300 species of birds, 45 species of reptiles and over 300 species of plants. However it is the “relatively easy sightings” of wild tigers that has made Ranthambhore famous all over the world. Day Notes After breakfast, check-out from your hotel at 9am and drive to Ranthambore Arrive in Ranthambore by early lunch and check-in to the resort After lunch, get set for an exciting Forest Safari Return to the resort by late evening. P a g e | 6 Ranthambore Fort A World Heritage fortification perched atop the Thambore Hill overlooking the former hunting grounds of Maharajas of Jaipur. Explore towers, massive walls, huge iron-clad gates, tanks and crevices of the majestic historic fort and enjoy views of the park and tiger reserve. Go to the eastern part of the fort, a nearly wild section with a stream and observe birds, soaring serpent eagles and vultures, and even a leopard down below or a rare and elusive fishing cat. Bring binoculars or cameras with powerful lenses and get a guide for all the rich historical details. Ranthambore National Park One of the largest national parks in northern India, covering entire area of 392 km. It is situated in the Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan, about 110 km northeast of Kota and 140 km southeast of Jaipur, which is also the nearest airport. The nearest town and railway station is at Sawai Madhopur, about 11 km away. The park is also close to the Kota railway station. RIDCOR operates a mega-highway between Kota and Ranthambhore.
