To the Point TO THE POINT American Pointer Club February 2016 April 2016 Part 1A We decided to put out a Part 1A Newsletter this month – ENJOY DEADLINE MAY 1st The complete video set purchased after the show is $100. Individual DVDs such as sweeps only or BOB only, agility only, etc is $20 each. Anyone wishing to purchase video sets or a particular dvd should send a check to APC at 1628 N Temperance Ave., Fresno, CA 93727 or pay via PayPal at http://www.americanpointerclub.org/PayPal.shtml and email their order to me at [email protected]. Orders should be placed before May 1, 2016. Foreign purchases should include an additional $7 for international mailing fees. Rather than wait for Pointer Points to come out in June we are sending the write-up and results of the 2015 National Championship Field Trial to the membership now. The statistician reports for 2015 are published below. It is more cost effective to provide the detailed reports here. The top awards will receive a special feature in Pointer Points. Keep an eye out for this in the upcoming issue. 2015 Statistics Reports Refer to complete statistic reports on the Website for the point calculations for each venue. Picchi BENCH STATISTICS - KAREN BLASCHE – SUBMITTED 2015 BENCH STATISTICS REPORT 88 Pointers (42 dogs, 46 bitches) completed their conformation Championships in 2015 – compared with: 106 (54 dogs, 52 bitches) in 2014; 85 (40 dogs, 45 bitches) in 2013; 102 (50 dogs, 52 bitches) in 2012; 91 (47 dogs, 44 bitches) in 2011; 86 (42 dogs, 44 bitches) in 2010; 26 Champion pointers achieved Grand Champion status in 2015. The AKC Grand Champion title was introduced in 2010 and to date 166 Pointers have now earned this distinction in addition to their AKC Champion of Record title. In the show ring, 44 Pointers (20 dogs, 24 bitches) placed in 256 groups in 2015. They won 6 BIS, 5 BISS, 45 GR-1’s, 69 GR-2’s, 72 GR-3’s and 70 GR-4’s. This is the third year for the AKC National Owner-Handled Series and first time APC will be awarding a plaque to the club member with the highest cumulative score and certificates to the top ten finishers. The N-O-H year runs from October to October instead of the regular calendar year and is rapidly gaining popularity with Pointer owners. In 2012/13 there were 31 Pointers, 2013/14 had 51 giving it a go, and 2014/15 had 70. This is a very positive event! It is my continued honor and pleasure to serve as the bench statistician - recorder of Champions and Titleholders of record; annual Top & Merit awards for Breeders, Sires & Dams; the Group & Breed Top 10’s; Owner-Handled Top 10’s, and the Top Producers of the Decade and All Time for the Club. (1978) Directed by: Dr. John Jellicorse. Pp. 165. David Ross Locke was a newspaper editor, novelist, satirist, and lecturer prominent during and immediately after the Civil War period. He gained widespread fame because of his creation, "Petroleum Vesuvius Nasby." In Nasby, Locke created a character to satirize the Northern Democrats who sympathized with the Southern point of view. On a weekly basis, Nasby wrote letters to the editor which chronicled his misadventures. Because of his bigotry and narrow, self-serving motivations, Nasby always came to bad ends. Locke's contemporaries considered the Nasby letters invaluable in maintaining >- X Northern morale during the war. < Because of the prominence he gained through Nasby, Locke was asked -J to lecture nationally. His three major lectures, "Cussid Be Canaan," C3 "The Struggles of a Conservative with the Woman Question," and "In C) 2 Search of the Man of Sin," proved very popular with his audiences. "1 The lectures are comprehensive statements of his positions toward the major social issues of his day—slavery, women's suffrage, and corrup- tion. These lectures are also satires. Humor, however, was not Locke's primary goal. He considered himself a reformer, and sought, through his lectures, to persuade. The analyst of his lectures must evaluate them in that light in order to properly assess their worth. The best insight into Locke's positions is obtained by analysis of his statements across all his major media.
