KOTA KINABALU: Six people including three Filipinas claimed trial at the High Court here Thursday to trafficking drugs, respectively. Hasrani Aliamid, Eros Matarul, 49, Abd Haibir Omad, 24, Lajit Sariban, 58, Fatma Maran, 22, and Nuraida Adam, 22, pleaded not guilty before Judge Datuk Nurchaya Hj Arshad to the charges framed against them. Hasrani was accused of trafficking 377.19gm of syabu at 10.10am on May 15, 2020 in front of a house at Angkasa apartment, Jalan in Manggatal.

Eros, a Filipina and Haibir were jointly charged with trafficking 169.9gm of syabu at 3.20pm on April 29, 2019 at the roadside of Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, behind Wisma Merdeka here. Lajit Sariban allegedly trafficked 111.3gm of syabu at 6.30pm on Sept 9, 2020 under the Sungai bridge, near Jalan Burung Selingkir in . Filipinas Fatma and Nuraida were jointly accused of trafficking 51.15gm of syabu at 3.30pm on Nov 18, 2019 at a house at Lorong 4, Taman Putera Jaya in Manggatal. The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act carries the death sentence or imprisonment for life and whipping not less than 15 strokes if not sentenced to death, on conviction.

Nurchaya set June 30 for pre-trial case management for each of the cases. All accused were ordered to be remanded further as the charges against them has no provision for bail. Deputy Public Prosecutor Rozanna Abdul Hadi prosecuted. Hasrani was represented by appointed counsel PJ Perira, Eros and Haibir were defended by appointed counsel Hairul V. Othman. Lajit was represented by assigned counsel Ashraaf Danial Zakaria, Fatma was defended by appointed counsel Azhier Farhan while Nuraida was represented by assigned counsel Norlaily Anuar.
