RESUMO A pesquisa tem como objetivo geral o de investigar as músicas da banda Iron Maiden enquanto instrumentos de mediação da informação acerca de acontecimentos históricos. Devido à extensa produção fonográfica da banda, foi necessária realização de um recorte na obra, selecionando-se 15 músicas para análise e classificando-as em três categorias: Música e identidade cultural, Música como expressão ritualística e Música enquanto confrontação com a realidade. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória, de natureza qualitativa. A coleta de dados foi sustentada por pesquisa bibliográfica e documental online e em suportes físicos (CDs e DVDs). Como metodologia de análise dos dados, utilizou-se a Análise de Conteúdo. Os resultados obtidos tornam evidentes o cunho histórico apresentado nas canções selecionadas, a possibilidade de se obter informações sobre os acontecimentos relatados e, para além disso, ramificar o conhecimento para além dos fatos narrados, ao estudar os contextos contidos nas entrelinhas. Conclui-se, portanto, que a hipótese levantada nesta pesquisa é verdadeira, pois as músicas da banda Iron Maiden podem ser instrumentos de mediação da informação sobre acontecimentos históricos. ABSTRACT The general objective of the research is to investigate the Iron Maiden band's songs as instruments of information mediation about historical events. Due to the band's extensive phonographic production, it was necessary to make a cut in the work, selecting 15 songs for analysis and classifying them into three categories: Music and cultural identity, Music as ritualistic expression and Music as confrontation with reality. This is an exploratory research of a qualitative nature. The data collection was supported by bibliographic and documentary research online and on physical media (CDs and DVDs). Discourse Analysis was used as methodology for data analysis. The results obtained make evident the historical imprint presented in the selected songs, the possibility of obtaining information about the reported events and, in addition, branching knowledge beyond the narrated facts, by studying the contexts contained between the lines. It is concluded, therefore, that the hypothesis raised in this research is true, because the Iron Maiden band's songs can be instruments of mediation of information about historical events. Uma pesquisa realizada por Freire e Freire (2014), que teve como objeto de estudo a Base de Dados Referencial de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação (BRAPCI), revela que “o primeiro artigo indexado nessa temática foi publicado no n. 2 do v. 9 da Revista da Escola de Biblioteconomia da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, em 1980, e tem como tema o papel da biblioteca pública na mediação cultural” (FREIRE; FREIRE, 2014,

Aqui propomos tecer uma reflexão geral acerca de diversos aspectos versados na capa do álbum intitulado Powerslave, da banda Iron Maiden, como a relação entre produção, consumo e apropriação de elementos da cultura do Antigo Egito pela indústria cultural da década de 1980. Também debatemos a ressignificação desses elementos para funcionar no contexto fantasioso da ilustração. Por fim, abordamos a relação da morte com o rock e, finalmente, como as funções específicas da capa como proteção do LP e a sua funcionalidade como suporte visual. Here we propose to weave a reflection, in a very general way about a number of aspects on the cover of the album titled Powerslave, by the musical group Iron Maiden, as the relationship between production, consumption and appropriation of the old elements of Ancient Egyptian culture by the cultural industry of the 1980's. We also discuss the redefinition of these elements to operate in the context of fantasy illustration. Then, we approach the relation between death and rock'n'roll, and finally the specific functions of the cover as a protection and its functionality as visual support.

    10 December 2020 The Bush Telegraph AND THE BANDS PLAYED ON Andrew Shields uncovers the re- markable musical heritage of the Red Lion On 7 July 1972, a newly formed pop group played at the Red Lion. They didn’t dress in denim like most other musicians of the era; in fact, their heavily stylised presentation – a frontman with an extravagant ’50s quiff and a keyboard player sporting full make-up and gloves – could hardly have been more opposed to the prevailing fashion. Three weeks earlier, their appearance on BBC2’s ‘The Old Grey Whistle Test’ had raised eyebrows for its art-pop pretensions; by mid-August, their first single, ‘Virginia Plain’, was storming up the charts and the band were booked as support to David Bowie at two huge London concerts. From a room above a pub in Leytonstone to the stage of the Rainbow Theatre in just six weeks – quite a journey for Bryan Ferry, Brian Eno and Roxy Music. Led Zeppelin – the truth! One of the joys of living in this area over the last decade has been its re-emergent music scene; in particular, the restoration of the Ley- tonstone Ballroom above the Red Lion. From Jazzie B to Norman Jay, the Blockheads to snooker legend Steve Davis, who DJ’d during the wonderful Shake the High Road Festival in Lose the 2018, this iconic venue has attracted some ma- lawnmower jor names in recent years. We can only hope it will do so again when the Covid-19 pandemic The Who delivered is under control.
